Rising Stars: Meet BRE of Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to BRE

Hi BRE, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey, I’m BRE, an American rock artist, songwriter, and producer based in Los Angeles. I kicked off my music journey at 15 as a Country artist and spent 13 years exploring different genres before finding my home in alt-rock. My music mixes introspective lyrics with hard-hitting instrumentation, classical guitar, and upright bass, reflecting a blend of passion, badassery, and vulnerability. I’ve played stages worldwide, including a recent stint on American Idol Season 21. Performing is where I truly come alive, getting the audience to join me in creating unforgettable shows. Starting out in dueling piano bars, my live shows are all about making the audience part of the experience. This passion for the stage is what led me to co-create the concert series Women Rock LA, to highlight the best up and coming female rock talent in Los Angeles.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey in music has been anything but smooth. I came into music at a young age believing that if I worked hard, I would be mega successful in no time. I had created expectations about what my path would look like due to outside influences encouraging me to think that way, as well as internal beliefs about how my life would pan out. When things didn’t work out that way in the timeline I expected, I was crushed. Music became a trigger for me and I really struggled to even write anymore. It took me a long time to get out of my own way enough to create again. Thankfully I’m now at a place where I make and perform music because it’s who I am rather than for what I hope to get out of it. I’m excited to see where this journey will take me!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Apart from the release of my most recent album ‘Playing With Power’, the thing I am most proud of and excited for is the concert series I created with my collaborator Jules Quaas called ‘Women Rock LA’. Kicking off on Friday, July 19th at Lucky Strike Hollywood, Women Rock LA is a concert that celebrates original female rock artists who are making waves in the LA scene. We have four original artists (myself included), a female comedian, and a female DJ spinning for the event. It’s taken a TON of work to put together, but I am so proud of what we have created and so excited to see all of our badass women shine on that stage!

What does success mean to you?
Success was a loaded word for me for a long time. I used to define it as external circumstances coming together in the way that I wanted. But now I see success as doing the things that I can control to make me feel creatively fulfilled and happy. That way, my success is not predicated on anything outside of myself. Creating and releasing my album while I was working through my trauma with music was successful. Creating this concert series was successful. No matter what happens with any of these things, my success does not rely on the outcome; it’s simply doing the things I set out to do!
