Rising Stars: Meet Brandy P. of BAP Studio & Photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Pickett.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started doing photography in Highschool. That was my first real introduction to it. This was during a time when you would process pictures from negatives in a darkroom. I was fascinated by it. Years later, I was looking for a creative outlet. I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures of family and friends. Being able to capture those special memorable moments. So I started out doing shoots of friends and their families. My first shoot was for a Christmas card on an intro camera you get for like $400. Fast forward three years and I’m being requested for behind the scenes shoots by local directors for their productions. All of my shoots come through word of mouth, which is nice for me. It allows me to connect with my clients more intimately.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a one woman show has its challenges for sure. I try to make sure my client understands my strengths as well as my limitations. However, I’m fortunate in that I’ve increased my circle of photography professionals which allows me to offer more services to my clients by way of referrals.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer based in Los Angeles. I specialize in portraits, events, and behind the scenes photography. I’m advertised as a milestone photographer, so all of those big moments you want frozen in time is where I come in. My proudest moment as a photographer I would say, is when I have repeat customers. There’s something to be said about a client that keeps coming back. I would say what sets me apart from other photographers is my warm touch and personable approach during the shoot. I do my best to ensure my clients feel comfortable throughout the process.

What does success mean to you?
I would define success in my field by the relationships you create with the families and clients I shoot. If my client comes to me for their engagement shoot, then returns for wedding announcements, maternity shoot, newborn shoot, or 1st family photo; that’s a win for me.
