Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Florence.
Hi Brandy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Honestly , I didn’t start painting because I saw myself becoming an artist, I started because I was trying to find a way through grief. In May of 2022, after learning that a close family member had only a few days to live, I felt a heaviness that I didn’t really know how to carry or express. I picked up canvas and paint almost instinctively, watched a few videos online, and spent a quiet weekend in my garage just creating without a plan. It wasn’t about making something perfect it was about finding a moment to breathe and release what I was feeling.
As I kept painting, I began to notice that the movement of color on the canvas mirrored what was happening inside of me. Some pieces felt heavier, others felt lighter, and slowly I could see my own healing reflected through the work. Painting became a space where I could slow down, process emotions, and reconnect with parts of myself that felt distant during that time. What started as a way to cope gradually became something deeply personal a way to transform pain into meaning and growth.
That journey has led me to The Rebirth in Color Collection, a one-night exhibition that represents everything I’ve moved through the breaking, the surrender, the healing, the rise, and the becoming. For me, this show isn’t just about art; it’s about honoring transformation and the quiet strength it takes to keep moving forward. My hope is that when people experience the work, they feel a sense of connection and recognize pieces of their own journey within it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No this hasn’t been a smooth road. It’s been an internal battle of doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing in my career and have been. To leaning to let go and allows things to flow just as the the paint on the canvas.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve spent more than 15 years working in healthcare as a senior leader, growing through a range of roles that I once believed would be my lifelong path. That journey taught me a lot about resilience not just pushing through challenges, but learning to trust my heart and pivot when life doesn’t unfold the way we expect.
Any big plans?
Right now, I’m focused on continuing to grow at my own pace and allowing my art to evolve naturally. The Rebirth in Color Collection feels like an important beginning, and I’m looking forward to creating more work that reflects healing, connection, and honest storytelling while remaining open to whatever opportunities unfold along the way.
