Today we’d like to introduce you to Avgoustina Papadopoulou.
Hi Avgoustina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, whether through writing or visual art. I started out studying English and Creative Writing, but over time I realized that filmmaking was the language that allowed me to express myself most honestly. My work naturally evolved into short films that blend realism with poetic and surreal elements, often exploring themes like identity, mental health, and human connection.
When I returned to Cyprus, my partner Savvas Christou came up with the idea of Cult Experiences, a production company and a creative platform that unites film, music, dance, and fashion. I joined him in shaping it into what it is today: a growing ecosystem that produces short films, music videos, and commercials, while also creating opportunities for other artists to showcase their work.
Alongside filmmaking, writing has remained an essential part of my life. I recently completed my first book, ’20 Things Before You Leave Your 20s’, and a poetry collection titled ‘We Die a Little Louder Here’ – both ready for publication.
Every step of my journey has been about turning limitations into creative opportunities and using art as a way to connect people, share stories, and evoke emotion.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, it still isn’t. The creative path is unpredictable. You face challenges every day and constantly dive into the unknown, project after project, film after film. It’s never easy to let go of something you’ve poured your heart into and move on to the next thing.
It’s also not easy because you don’t have a steady income or the security of a 9-to-5 job. There’s uncertainty, and sometimes you question everything. But despite the instability and the chaos, it’s always worth it. The moments of creation, connection, and impact remind you why you chose this path in the first place.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work focuses on creating emotionally driven, cinematic stories that connect with people on a deeper level. I specialize in directing films, music videos, and commercials that balance storytelling with strong visual identity. Whether it’s a branded video or an art film, I always aim to capture authenticity, something that feels real, human, and memorable.
Alongside directing, I also write. My book 20 Things Before You Leave Your 20s and poetry collection We Die a Little Louder Here reflect the same themes I explore through film, personal growth, vulnerability, and the beauty of imperfection.
What I’m most proud of is building a career that bridges creativity with strategy. Every project I take on is not just about making something beautiful, but about making something that works — that moves people, tells a clear story, and delivers impact. I think that balance between emotion and intention is what truly defines my work.
What’s next?
Right now, I’m writing my first feature film, a story that delves deeply into my inner world and the recurring themes I’ve always explored through my work: identity, obsession, and the human condition. It’s the most personal project I’ve ever developed, and I can already tell it’s going to change me in the process of making it.
At the same time, I’m preparing to publish my two books, 20 Things Before You Leave Your 20s and We Die a Little Louder Here, both of which feel like an extension of the worlds I create on screen. I also have a few short films in development, and a Halloween special that teases something new, a step into horror. It’s a genre I’ve always admired for its psychological depth, and I can’t wait to explore it from my own perspective.
