Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Holeman.
Hi Austin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started my music blog Apollo the Muse near the end of 2020. I have always wanted to show my passion for music and wanted to create a unique way to share it. I truly began the site out of a necessity for an expressive outlet. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a writer either but that was the skill I had at my disposal. The site itself has gained some traction, but I primarily try to focus on putting out what I want to post and the way it’s received is a nice byproduct. The main goal is to share music in the hopes that someone either finds a new obsession or reads my writing and interprets the art with a new perspective.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been smooth and I think that’s attributed to separating my intention in creating the site and what I would assume is expected of me to “promote” a site. I will say the biggest obstacle is social media interaction and activity anxiety. Social media is a strange tool to navigate and at times seems like a necessity to feel successful. Quickly I realized that I wasn’t having fun trying to post every day or do random this or that, so I simply stopped. haha. I think I feel comfortable in just letting the site speak for itself to those who find it, and so far, that hasn’t been too bad!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Previous to this I actually did a lot of hospitality work with Disney. After years of that I realized, I was trying to work up a path I didn’t even want to be on to begin with, which led to the creation of Apollo the Muse. Creating this music blog has shown me that working on something you’re passionate about can yield results in so many ways and it was the mental jump I needed to figure out the next step in my life. Currently, it led me to go back to school for coding so I can hone my skill in site creation and expand into new boundaries.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest supporters have been my family and friends. I would ask for their opinions on every aspect when creating my site. Before it was published I would have them critique the first few articles so I could see the intention of my writing and how it’s received. It’s jarring to put yourself out there especially with something as personal as writing, so I appreciate the love everyone showed in helping me navigate that.
Other than immediate relationships, I have been a huge fan of another music blog MuuMuse run by Bradley Stern, and have been a visitor and fan of his work for years. It definitely inspired me to take this route when expressing my own taste in music. He’s at a level that’s admirable and always an inspiration for my creativity.
