Rising Stars: Meet Ariana Rodriguez of Whittier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Rodriguez.

Hi Ariana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my career with a deep passion for creative art and hands-on craftsmanship, starting with small projects as a little girl while my mother would create beautiful gowns; it allowed me to explore sewing, fashion, and artistic expression. Over time, my passion grew into a full professional path, blending costume design, and specialized uniform work inspired by both artistry and functionality. Through years of refining my skills, collaborating with clients, and expanding my creative vision, I’ve built a passion rooted in innovation, detail, and storytelling through design. Today, I continue to grow as a designer and—bringing unique concepts to life, developing new product lines, and building a brand that reflects both my creative identity and the people I serve.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The fashion world is definitely not for the weak, it is filled with constant struggles, sometimes even to the point of throwing in the towel. As a creative, we tend to suffer from impostor syndrome as we are growing we always have the fear of failing without even trying. As hard as life gets being able to create is the best forms of Therapy to cope with what’s going on in the world to keep you mentally stable. I’ve gone through many emotional roller coasters in life, but have always pushed myself to get back up and continue where I left off if not to push harder.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I design costumes that blend cultural storytelling with my own creative world. For years, I became known for reinventing Mexican-inspired garments with a modern twist—honoring tradition while shaping something uniquely mine. My work continues to reflect the beauty of culture, imagination, and personal expression. I am very grateful for the opportunities I’ve had meeting other creatives by developing great friendships and supporting one another. My work sets itself, apart for originality and creativity.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
In the design world, the greatest breakthroughs often come from the ideas that scare us the most. I’ve learned that when I hesitate to share a design—when it feels too bold, too different, or too vulnerable—that’s usually the one that becomes the showstopper. The pieces I doubt the most often end up resonating the strongest. Creativity thrives on risk, and every time I lean into that fear, I discover my most powerful work
