Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Eichenauer.
Hi Anna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been creative so it was clear to me that I wanted to do something creative in my professional life. For a while, I was bouncing back and forth trying to decide between different mediums: acting, music, writing, filmmaking. Everybody was saying that I had to make a choice and that you can only be great one thing. But trying to focus on one thing always led me to feel like something was missing. Now I’m trying to embrace all those mediums of expression. Whatever I need to do, I need to do. As far as getting where I am today, I didn’t go through a lot of traditional schooling but instead focused on freelancing and learning and exploring new skills through online courses and other types of classes. That was challenging in many ways but I don’t regret taking that path.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Apart from having to figure out how to pay for things, which is particularly difficult in the beginning of most creative careers, one of my biggest struggles was probably coping with undiagnosed ADHD as an adult. It affected (and still affects) every area of my life. Luckily, I was able to get diagnosed a couple of years ago and have learned a lot about myself since then.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I’m known for probably depends on who you ask. In the last couple of years, I’ve been focusing specifically on trailer music. It’s been an interesting and exciting journey and I started getting placements last year. I love discovering new genres and sound palettes within that world. Even though the structure is pretty fixed most of the time, there’s a lot of room for experimentation. I’m trying to get more and more into that experimental rabbit hole. I get bored when I’m not exploring something new. One of my highlights was being awarded “Composer of the Year” in 2021 by Protege. On the side, I’ve been going to acting classes for one and a half years now. It’s such a different type of art but maybe that’s why it’s intriguing to me.
What were you like growing up?
Always creating, always inventing. As a kid, I used to make up games for me and my friends to play. My mom has said that I was “fun” and “funny”.
