Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Vallecillo Goncalves.
Hi Angelica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began back in 2019, I was desperate to search for a hobby. I was working with a naturopath and was asked to find my happiness within myself. I was listening to podcasts and was enjoying the conversations and people sharing their stories and day-to-day life. I felt like I have so much to say after listening to my favourite podcast and wanted to be like them in hosting a radio show or a podcast. I did some research, looked for some hosting websites and BAM! I started a podcast on February 14, 2019. All I wished for is “find my happiness”, being diagnosed with PCOS and being told I wouldn’t have children, all I wanted to do is try and “find my happiness”. Once I started this podcast, I noticed how much work I had to do. I taught myself the editing programs and got my creative juices flowing. Being such an introvert was a challenge, I didn’t have any confidence or the ability to speak to strangers in person and I’m creating a podcast speaking with strangers across the world? What was I thinking? The first months were the hardest and I tried to appreciate the process and wear 10 different hats.
Once I got my first celebrity on the show, that’s when it hit me. I am capable of doing more, thank you Zach Giffin from Tiny House Nation for being my first guest on my show within six months of being live. Once I got the hang of things I got addicted, I worked a full-time job and then came home to work on the podcast. I wanted to interview more people and start building a community of my own. Guests would tell me that I had a voice for podcasting and recommended me become a speaker to share my story about my journey dealing with my learning disability. Whoever is starting a podcast, learn to appreciate the journey and don’t give up. Go back to your why and what you’re trying to create. When I celebrated my one-year anniversary of podcasting, I felt a change within myself, I built confidence and became an extrovert, learned a whole new trade and became a speaker by volunteering to the Learning Disability Association of York Region, publishing almost 100 episodes at the time. I was able to see what I was able to accomplish and not be afraid to push myself even more. Fast forward to now, I had the privilege of interviewing Barbara Kavovit from The Real Housewives of NYC, April Julian from Is It Cake? On Netflix and Maya Vander from Selling Sunset on Netflix.
A Little Bit Of Everything With Me! Podcast has won 6 awards since 2019, nominated 12x, listened in 140+ countries, available on 20+ platforms, published over 800+ episodes, and interviewed over 500 amazing people. This podcast has given me opportunities, I have two small businesses: AVG All Very Good selling Jewerly, Hair Accessories and more. I am a photographer for AV Photography. I am the Co-Founder of The Circle of Outstanding Podcasts, a podcast community group. I am a Freelance Voice Over Artist and Speaker/Keynote Speaker. As a new mom trying to tackle everything and balancing my full-time career and everything else, it hasn’t been easy. In February 2023, I am celebrating my 4th anniversary and planning a conference/event in 2024 to celebrate my 5-year anniversary of podcasting in NYC. I have learned a lot about myself and grown so much! Don’t give up on your dream and the possibilities are endless.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey isn’t easy, I noticed the number of hats you have to wear in order to keep the ship sailing. Editing, producing, marketing, contacting and booking appointments of your guests, recording and more. It can be exhausting but listen to your body and slow down and take rest. I was so addicted to working on this podcast to take it to the next level. Which caused me to burnout, I had to slow down. When you have so much going on because you are building your empire, we tend to forget to listen to our bodies. The hardest part for me is now, being a new mom to a 14-month-old and balancing everything and being back at work has been the hardest. When I was on maternity leave, I was able to utilize the time and the village around me to pursue my passions. Being a mom is the most rewarding thing, I feel like you want to push and do more to provide more for your family. As I am trying to figure out how to balance everything, I have been taking some time off to really prioritize and enjoy the special moments with my son. I love everything that I do but I want to be sure I have time to do it. For those struggling, take time to reflect what can we work on more than the other. Use the people who support you to help you. Ask for help! We are human beings and some of us feel we can do it all, but we need to be present moment and take it easy sometimes which is hard. I went from publishing 5 episodes a week to 3 now. We are all building an empire and it’s definitely not easy, it takes time and patience but you can do it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Full-Time I am a project administrator for a Large Construction General Contractor, Part-Time, I am a podcaster, speaker and voice-over artist. As an adult with a learning disability and accepting this gift. I can use my creative side to do a lot of projects. I didn’t have a good experience in school as I was told I wouldn’t be able to achieve much. I am proud of this podcasting journey that led me to create opportunities and receive them. I always encourage people to find their strengths, to be gentle with yourself and celebrate the little milestones. Life isn’t easy, there are always challenges, but that is what helps us grow. Patience is something I have learned in this journey. Consistency is a lot of work but it pays off at the end.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favourite book is “Heels of Steel by Barbara Kavovit, podcast there are so many CQP Moments, Ken Mr. Gentleman, The Bromar Show, Our Collaboration Station and many more.
