Rising Stars: Meet Angela Zhang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Zhang.

Alright, thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My path in life has never been linear. Just as I was settling into my first year of middle school, my life got uprooted when my family moved to China. Just as I was settling into life in China, I moved to California for college. Post-grad, just as I was settling into being an engineer for Intel, I quit to become a full-time content creator.

And now, I create a lifestyle, fashion, finance, and food content full-time, run a trading discord community of 30k+ members, and model for commercial and editorial clients. I’ve always been a spontaneous person, making my visions into reality, not being afraid of failure. Truly living the “just do it” motto, one path always leads to another, and I firmly believe that all the life events aforementioned wouldn’t have happened unless in that order. And I don’t regret a single thing in my story thus far.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As my path wasn’t a linear one, there were definitely bumps (failure, self-doubt, haters) along the way. Internally, I’ve always tried to meet up to certain expectations I set for myself and I often feel like I’m not doing enough at my age. Externally, I’ve faced doubt from my parents to even strangers on the internet. Working in social media is a very vulnerable job, you really have to put yourself out there, not be afraid of judgement. There were times where I felt burnt out from putting content out and not getting the performance I expected, or just simply running out of creative juices to pour.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
On social media, I go by zhangsta, and my brand doesn’t stick to just one niche. I have many topics of focus like personal finance, stock trading, fashion/modeling, and food but for the most part, I try to find meaning in everything. Everything is content when you think about it – from daily life, travels, meals to business advice. You can virtually create content about anything and everything. So far my main two areas of passion have been finance/business and fashion modeling. When it comes to personal finance, I feel like I can reach a different set of audiences compared to other creators in the same space. A lot of my network is in the fashion and creative space in LA/NYC – it’s also this group of people that inspired me to create the content I do because I firmly believe that everyone deserves to take control of their own finances!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’ve been asked this question in the past, and my go-to answer is my fearlessness. Not being afraid to fail or make a fool of myself. Being able to laugh/shrug it off when someone on the internet is hating. I think this characteristic also goes hand in hand with being able to take risks/try new things. My whole life, I’ve been trying to break out of the status quo, I went to school for electrical engineering, yet I’m pursuing something entirely different now and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
