Rising Stars: Meet Ana Genesis Aviles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Genesis Aviles.

Hi Ana Genesis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for cooking and baking! I graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, but I actually didn’t take the patisserie course. It wasn’t until a few years later that I took a bigger interest in baking and making cakes. I started working at a local café in Highland Park where I was hired as a baker and I quickly realized how therapeutic the baking process was for me. Fast forward to 2020 when the pandemic hit, we were all left with little to no hours at work but still had to manage paying bills and making ends meet. A few weeks into being without work, I started promoting my baked goods & cakes on Facebook and Instagram where I quickly began receiving so many orders! I was a bit overwhelmed with the response but so grateful and excited to be able to make a cake for someone’s special occasion! It’s been a bit over a year since I started this journey and I truly feel so blessed that it continues to grow. I took the leap to start my own business in the middle of a pandemic, which wasn’t easy, but I’m proud of all the hard work I’ve accomplished.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my own business during the pandemic was definitely not easy, but I felt it was a necessity. I’ve referred to it as a blessing in disguise because had I not been out of a job, I would have never even thought to sell cakes full time! It may not always be a smooth road, but it’s all about how we navigate through it. I take pride in every custom cake I make from scratch so, to me, it truly makes the journey worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in making beautiful, unique and delicious cakes! Using quality ingredients and hand-crafted entirely from scratch, each cake is created by me, not mass production, therefore, attention to detail is in every aspect of it from start to finish. I absolutely love using any seasonal ingredients available to me, especially if they’re coming from my parent’s fruit trees! Also, if you’re looking for an amazing Tres Leches Cake, you know where to find me! I offer a variety of flavors and always get raving reviews from my customers.

I’m so proud of how much I’ve been able to grow my business in a little over a year! I had the opportunity to make a cake for a music video, I’ve been able to deliver cakes to movie sets, and the feedback I get from customers always makes me so happy. I was also featured on a news segment for abc7 earlier this year, which was really exciting to be a part of! I’m so grateful for the continued support and can’t wait for my business to continue to flourish.

What sets me apart is that I connect with the customers and make sure that they are getting something unique and curated to their liking. I like to believe that my cakes bring joy to people and that in some way, they’re allowing me to be part of their special celebration. If I can make someone happy with my cakes, it makes it all worthwhile. Every cake I bake is made with lots of love!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Passion, persistence, and sociability would have to be a few important qualities and characteristics that lead to success. You have to be passionate about what you do in order to reach your goals. It helps you push through the challenges and stress that may arise. Love what you do and do everything with purpose! I absolutely love being able to bake a cake for someone’s special occasion and I take so much pride in my creations. Persistence is also important. Every person has experienced failure, but we must learn from our mistakes, identify our weaknesses and persist even more. Lastly, being sociable and connecting with my customers has also been important to my success. I enjoy the connections I make with people and learning a little bit about them.
