Rising Stars: Meet Alyssa Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Evans.

Hi Alyssa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Photography is my dream job I never thought could be a reality. I’ve always loved photography – I’ve had a camera in my hand ever since I could remember! It was my way of documenting my own life, family & friends. After graduating high school, I began asking friends to “model” for me in cute outfits in fields/at the beach, eventually, friends would ask me to take their grad photos.

Photography was & always had been a constant in my life. Photography took the back burner as I struggled through college. I say struggled because it always felt like the “right thing to do” rather than what I really wanted to do. After graduating, my now husband & I got married. We moved to a little town I had never heard of in Northern California. I got a new job working for a high school senior photography company. You would think this would be the place where I began my photography career – it wasn’t. I barely touched a camera, instead, I handled all aspects of communications/the back end for the business. Shortly after starting this job, I upgraded my own camera and thought to myself, “why not?” This had always been an interest of mine. Let’s see where it takes me. With the help/encouragement of my husband + best friend Kayla, I went for it. Began to book little shoots here & there. Kayla happened to be in almost the same exact position as me. She was pursuing her photography career more seriously, and now, so was I. Having her by my side was a huge help. We were able to learn together, ask each other questions, and grow together!

After a few months, I was presented with two paths. Continue along the path of working more 9-5 jobs that made me extremely unhappy & attempt to make use of my four years college degree, or follow my heart & work towards my dreams in the world of creative business ownership. I’m sure you can guess what path I ended up taking. 😉 Today, I am known as Alyssa Marie Photography! A traveling wedding & elopement photographer based in California. I’ve had the honor of photographing hundreds of weddings all over California & beyond. Some of my favorite destinations have been Hawaii, NYC, Washington, Arizona, and a favorite here in CA…Joshua Tree National Park. I also host a photography workshop alongside my best friend (yup the same one mentioned earlier) Kayla Esparza Photography! Fearless the workshop – we help other photographers achieve their goals & make their dreams a reality! I’ve always dreamt of being able to do what I love – and this is it. Capturing people’s feelings emotions, memories, their lives & love.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d be lying if I said it’s been a smooth road. I’ve definitely had my fair share of obstacles/struggles. But with each struggle/obstacle you overcome, there’s growth. One specific thing I’ve struggled with and feel like most creative business owners have struggled with as well is fear/doubt. The fear that you’re not good enough doubts you’re worthy of success, etc. These are simply lies we tell ourselves and stop us from going after what we really want. I don’t know who said this but it’s one of my favorite quotes: “Never trust your fears, they don’t know your strength.” And that couldn’t be more true!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in weddings, elopements & couples. I’m all about capturing my couples, genuinely, as they are. The real them, and the realness of their wedding day! I’m not into stiff/awkward poses. My focus is on moments & emotions. Capturing their wedding day as it unfolds naturally.

How do you think about happiness?
First thing that comes to mind – my family. My husband, two pups, and the rest of both of our families + the friends who we consider family. They are what is most important to me.
