Rising Stars: Meet Allison Hawkins of Ventura County, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Hawkins.

Hi Allison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The Augustinas is a Southern California Americana-Roots-Country harmonic duo fronted by Lizzy Passion and Allison Hawkins. Brought together by a shared birthday, and a love of harmonies and music grounded in American storytelling, The Augustinas combine an Americana aesthetic with an infectious country energy.

Whether singing a tight two-part harmony or backed by a full rocking band, they cater their performances to whatever audiences desire. They often bring special guests from the many talented musicians they know in Southern California.

The Augustinas perform passionate originals and timeless well known songs done with an outlaw country, roots rock flavor. Both Liz and Allison are consistently releasing original music on all major platforms, individually and together as The Augustinas!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It takes constant effort to create media (photos, flyers and videos), setup and maintain the website and social media sites, promote the band, gain followers, and book live performances. This is especially difficult with busy schedules since Liz has two young children with one on the way, and Allison works full time. Then you need to find the time to practice and get into a creative mindset to collaborate and write songs! We have managed to build some regular places to play and gain followers despite these challenges and hope to continue!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Liz makes a living playing music part time in a few projects including The Augustinas while also raising her two (soon to be 3!) children as a full time Mom. She also busks at a famous restaurant in the mountains near Malibu called The Old Place.

Allison “day job” is in international telemedicine for hospitals and health systems as a client operations manager. She leads a team of 5 who live in the US and Europe. But singing, writing music and performing are her passions, which she does part time mainly evenings and weekends.

They both are very strong singers who love singing harmonies, and their voices have a magical blend when doing so.!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We love living in Southern California! There are fantastic musicians everywhere and many opportunities to perform or collaborate musically with the culture of entertainment! Outdoor shows can happen almost year round. The expansive geography of the LA region and the traffic is always a challenge! We would love to play more in LA County, San Diego, and Santa Barbara county and even Big Bear in addition to nearby in the Ventura County area.
