Today we’d like to introduce you to Aliah Anderson.
Hi Aliah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey, my name is Aliah a.k.a. Lee creative and I’m a multidisciplinary artist specialize in photography originally from Oakland, CA. I graduated with my bachelors in graphic design and advertising and found my love for photography four years ago. Since picking up a camera, I learned not only to express myself through photography, but also through content creation, videography, and creative direction. I recently moved to LA to further my career and photography by working as an intern at Getty Images. This experience was truly incredible and as I’m starting this new chapter in my life, I’m very excited too, myself as a creative in industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe that a few challenges that I have faced would relate back to imposter syndrome. I’m sure many have faced this issue, but it’s just something that creatives have to learn to navigate through. Especially as a young black woman sometimes it feels like I’m in a room I don’t belong, but I know that I am there for a reason.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I’m working as a freelance photographer for Getty Images. Opportunity has led me to so many amazing experiences, such as working the Oscars and the Met Gala red carpets. At the time these moments felt very overwhelming and scary but now that I look back on it, I can enjoy the work that I was able to put out.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I always love playing with my Barbie dolls. I feel like I had such a big imagination. I was always creating worlds for them and storylines. I’m an only child unfortunately so yes, I might be a little quirky.
