Today we’d like to introduce you to Alesan Aboafahe.
Hi Alesan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was always interested in visual art, specifically photography. When I was in high school, I would take photos of my environment and from then on promised myself to appreciate the mundane in everyday life and document it. As soon as I went to college, I invested in photography equipment and have been shooting ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been as smooth as I thought it would be, just like anything else you start out, there will be things that just need more attention. I’m still figuring out how to make money through my photography.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a portrait photographer and aspiring ceramicist. I’m known for making sure that everything is aesthetically pleasing, haha! I’m also known for capturing cinematic, romantic photography. I like making everyone feel like they’re the main character. They’re the ones frolicking in the field.
I’m absolutely proud of my initiative and my photography journey thus far. Actually, earlier today I found out that my work was featured on Buzzfeed! As well as, my photography was featured on Unsplash’s main webpage.
How do you think about luck?
Bad luck has taught me a lot about gratitude and appreciation for what I have. It has also allowed me to put things into perspective to understand that at the end of the day, there are certain things in life that aren’t as important as we think.
