Rising Stars: Meet Adrian Carmine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Carmine.

Adrian Carmine

Hi Adrian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was a construction worker singing on the job, that everyone knew was the music guy on-site. That one day, decided to share my singing on social media, which then, opened the doors to some of my greatest experiences in life. Led me to play to capacity crowds backing artists like Joe Bataan, Trish Toledo, and a slew of other Chicano soul artists.

The pandemic shut everything down, and I took that opportunity to write and record my first EP. Eventually, leading me to be a sought-after producer/songwriter. Working for labels such as Industry Music Group, SOLA Records, My Grito. Along with lending my vocals for artists on record labels such as Daptone and Colemine.

I’m a first-generation Mexican American. My parents were immigrants, so I grew up heavily on Mexican Regional “Ranchera” music. As well as ’60s soul music from my mom’s teenage record collection. Dad played guitar and taught me my first chords and to sing. My mother was a dancer, and I got to inherit her moves on every stage I stepped foot on.

I’m only getting started here and look forward to seeing what new endeavors this road brings me. Music is the only thing I feel I’ve ever been good at, and everything else, I’ve only been pretending.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Classic soul is the genre I’ve always been most passionate about but was the music of yesteryear. The artists were gone or had reached their golden years. It was just a music from yesterday. I spent close to a decade sharing my songs to whatever project I was a part of but was met with less than enthused reactions by bandmates/colleagues.

Suddenly, what seemed, in the blink of an eye. Artists like Trish, Thee Sinseers, and Thee Lakesiders came out reviving the genre and I was ecstatic!! Plus, they weren’t somewhere across the world, they were here in East Los Angeles. They were basically in my backyard,

I knew I had to be a part of it and wasted no time reaching out. The struggle was over and things took off quickly.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer, songwriter, music producer, and working musician. I’m most proud of recording and producing my debut album all on my own.

I guess my friends and fans alike will tell you I’m known for hitting extremely high notes. They say I can “break glass.”

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I used to throw my annual Thanksgiving Michael Jackson concerts for my family. Singing, dancing, costume changes. No lip-syncing!!
