Today we’d like to introduce you to Ace Greene.
Hi Ace, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From the year of 2019 to now, I felt everyone was in a distressed state of mind. The past few years had been rocky especially for the city of La. Us losing Nipsey Hussle and Kobe Bryant back to back years is tough. Then losing the black superhero of our community Chadwick Boseman made it even worse. Those three great human beings taught us all to push through the darkest and distressed times and not let anything or anyone stop you. Then how can I forget, we had to deal with the police taking all my brothers and sisters away last summer. To top it all off, we are living through one of the largest pandemics in history. Los Angeles is definitely going through a rough patch right now. But it’s up to us to figure out what’s our next move. You gonna let distressed moments kick your behind or rise up and make something out of nothing despite adversity. Sitting back in quarantine made me realize that we can be taken from this world at anytime. I figured I would do what I love because who knows….in this time a cop or a disease can take me. So at the age of 17, I created Distressed Los Angeles, LLC.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I felt dealing with covid was definitely a struggle for me and I know it impacted so many others much worse. The main struggle for me is I would have a vision of where I would want to have a photoshoot because the background and scenery would compliment my clothes very much. But I wouldn’t be able to shoot there because of covid regulations and stay at home orders causing delays.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For me, just putting my logo on a couple of t-shirts isn’t enough. I love to tell stories through my clothes and make sure they have meaning to it. I find inspiration throughout my daily life. Whether it be from a museum, tv show, or graffiti work I see at the beach or downtown la. My community just inspires me. I feel this is what sets me apart from others. Even if it is the smallest design on a shirt. It has a story to it. The way I distress a certain pair of pants or a sweater. I have a reason for it.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Anyone who supports my brand alone means a lot to me. I appreciate every repost to every purchase. People ask me often why my clothes are so pricey. Well distressed is more than just a clothing brand. We made it our mission to find different ways to give back to the community. So I decided that every time I release a collection, 30 percent of all proceeds will go towards homeless/coronavirus kits to be passed out on skid row. Each product that is purchased is worth one kit. So just know you’re not only supporting the business, you’re also contributing to us help the community. As far as professionally collaborating with distressed, I like to collaborate with other brands who have meaning to them. Anyone can add a few designs to a shirt and call it a clothing line. But I feel clothing brands with purposes live forever.
