We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nicole Dohrman. Check out our conversation below.
Nicole , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’m actually pregnant with my first baby girl named Aurora, right now, so preparing for her arrival and stepping into this next chapter of life has been bringing me so much joy. 💕
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Nicole Dohrman, the founder and lead planner of Dreams In Detail, a luxury event planning and design firm based in Southern California. I specialize in high-end weddings, multi-day destination celebrations, corporate events, and immersive brand experiences. What makes my brand unique is our commitment to thoughtful design, flawless execution, and truly personal storytelling. Every event is crafted to feel intentional, elevated, and one-of-a-kind.
I started DID because I’ve always loved creating moments that make people feel celebrated. Over the years, we’ve become known for our meticulous attention to detail, strong vendor relationships, and the ability to take a client’s vision and bring it to life in a way that feels effortless and meaningful.
Right now, I’m especially excited about this next chapter as I’m expecting my first baby girl, while also continuing to grow the corporate and brand experience side of the business. It’s a really beautiful season of expansion both personally and professionally, and I’m grateful to create events that leave people feeling inspired and cared for.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that I’m releasing is the version of myself that thought burnout was just part of the job. For years, I operated in a constant go-go-go mode, saying yes to everything and everyone, because I wanted every client to feel supported and every event to be perfect. It served its purpose at the time, but it’s no longer for me.
I’m entering a new chapter where I’m taking on bigger, more meaningful projects for incredible clients, and I’m also being much more selective. Protecting my energy allows me to show up fully, lead creatively, and deliver a level of excellence that I’m truly proud of. Letting go of the burnout mentality has opened the door for more intentional work, more aligned opportunities, and a healthier, more sustainable version of success.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me things that success never could. It showed me resilience, clarity, and the importance of listening to my own needs. In the difficult seasons, you’re forced to slow down, look inward, and rebuild with intention, and that kind of growth doesn’t happen when everything is going right.
Those experiences also gave me a deep sense of confidence. I developed a mentality that no matter what happens, it’s all going to work out because I’ve already been through worse and came out stronger. Hard moments taught me to trust myself, protect my peace, and choose alignment over approval. And because of that, I’m able to experience success now in a much healthier, more grounded way.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’d like to say the public version of me is very much my authentic self, but it’s not the full picture. In my line of work, client privacy is everything, so I don’t share all of the highs and lows the way I sometimes wish I could. Because of that, I don’t really vent online or show the behind-the-scenes challenges that come with planning luxury events.
What people see is real — the warmth, the creativity, the leadership, the attention to detail — but it’s a curated version that respects the confidentiality and trust my clients place in me. The real me is still there, just with certain boundaries to protect the people I work with and the experiences I create.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, my customers would miss the level of care and calm I bring to their events. They trust me to anticipate their needs, make decisions as if I were them, and make things happen quickly and seamlessly. I think they’d also miss how easy I make it for them to celebrate — knowing everything is handled and they can just enjoy the moment.
