Today we’d like to introduce you to Zhe Scott.
Zhe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was in 4th grade, I decided that I wanted to be an attorney. After graduating from Long Beach Polytechnic High School, I went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where I fell in love with technology and grew my passion for music.
After working as a Web Applications developer for Raytheon right after graduation, I decided to pursue my Masters in Public Policy. After I finished my Master’s degree, I started working in the private sector again.
I found myself disillusioned and depressed after a painful divorce, and I landed at a small tech firm in 2010. I worked to grow their client base. I did I grew their website design and seo operation from $0 to $500,000 in recurring revenue alone. However, I was on food stamps and just ashamed of the fact that I was struggling financially.
I decided to pursue playing violin professionally in 2005 and dabbled in recording projects and gigging. However, I was able to get a management team as an artist in 2016, and the subsequent year I launched The Seo queen.
Once I grew weary of punching a clock for other companies I decided to bet on me. I decided to launch my own business. I launched my first brand in 2012, but I did not launch The SEO Queen officially until 2017. Launching the SEO Queen has been a life-changing endeavor, and I am so happy that I get to work with some of the best companies, musical artists, and producers in the world.
Entrepreneurship is not easy, but I am grateful for these opportunities because I am meeting a lot of people and I am also growing in every way. I think entrepreneurship is a great challenge, and it has taught me that it is much easier to get new clients than to get a new job.
I am also happy that I can explore my artistic and technical sides through website design, music production & performance, search engine optimization and speaking. I have not mentally put myself in a box, and it makes sense to me that I am both The SEO Queen and Lady Zhe. In fact, I wrote my company’s theme song.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Making the decision to bet on myself was hard. I did not want to leave the safety of a big organization. However, I knew that I would go no further than I was if I had stayed. Now I am giving webinars, speaking on stages, and doing so many things that I envisioned myself being and doing subconsciously. Giving myself self permission to fully and wholly believe in my self has been a challenge. The flip side of this is learning how to do is to read people. I think people come into your life for a reason, season or a lesson. I have learned many lessons. I have also made some amazing friends along the way. I am very happy to count my college classmate as a life long friend. I am delighted that she is taking the journey into entrepreneurial realm and I am so happy to share with her the lessons and resources that I have learned along the way.
Another challenge that I have had is really understanding my own worth. Far too many times, I have given value away without a clear ask. I am learning to stand up for myself more and more. It’s not arrogant to desire compensation for effort. This point leads me to another struggle. Coming from other agencies I learned the hard way that I cannot conduct business like they do. I have to find my own business model, and I am very happy that I am have trusted my own creativity and nurtured relationships to grow and soar in the fields of digital marketing and music.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The SEO Queen & Lady Zhe story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is called TSQ Marketing Inc. My company manages two major brands: The SEO Queen and Lady Zhe. Lady Zhe is a violinist, music producer, composer and performer. I enjoy performing music for retreats, conventions and more.
The SEO Queen is a digital marketing strategy agency that helps companies get more visibility, credibility, and profitability through website design, search engine optimization, social media marketing and other business and marketing strategies.
What sets me apart is that I really work hard to bring the highest level of success, integrity, and transparency to the marketing process for my clients.
