Today we’d like to introduce you to Young Woo Han.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After trying several built your own concept restaurant, I wanted to create a Korean version of it and since Korean food has similar bowl dish called “Bibimbap” which is mix of rice and vegetables. I wanted bring the mix of my old (Korean culture) and new (Californian style) life to make a perfect dish that everyone can enjoy and stay healthy. Luckily, with the help of my brother in law who has 10 years of experience in the fine dining put together the menu and brought my imagination to life.
Has it been a smooth road?
I always tell people cooking is easy. The hard part is managing people. It’s a constant balancing act go being their boss/mentor/friend/parent/mediator. Hiring and training new employees can be challenging but forming a good relationship with your staff is essential to a successful business. It’s also extremely rewarding to see them eventually grow and thrive in their personal and professional lives.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our company is 100% family owned and operated by first-generation Korean immigrants. All of the kimchi that we use is made by our Mother. She goes out and buy the cabbages herself and spends all day turning them into authentic kimchi. Of course, when she’s feeling tired (we have 3 stores!) we help her as much as we can.
But there’s nothing quite like a mother’s touch that no factory could be ever imitate. It’s this tradition that ultimately stands us apart from other companies.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think definitely for businesses that are trendy and new, our city is a good place to start out. People here love trying new things and enjoy the different culture and experience that our city provides. Also, since social media is highly controlled over our life, it’s easier and faster to expose ourselves to the people.
