Today we’d like to introduce you to Yeny Ferreras Raposo.

Yeny Ferreras Raposo

Hi Yeny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Yeny Ferreras, and I am a Dominican-born artist. My artistic journey begins in childhood, where I express my creativity by designing clothes for dolls using materials such as my mother’s curtains or paper.

After my family and I migrate to the United States, I discover a passion for photographing sunsets during my senior year of high school.

In college, I delve into graphic design and photography, earning an Associate’s degree in Digital Arts and Science from Bronx Community College in 2017 and a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from The City College of New York in 2018.

Driven by my passion for photography, I pursue teaching and have been working as an adjunct lecturer at Bronx Community College for four years, sharing my expertise in digital photography. Balancing motherhood, freelance work, and teaching continues to help me grow and evolve as both a skilled designer and an accomplished professional photographer.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I went to college with the goal of becoming a well-known and versatile graphic designer in the industry. Along the way, I faced struggles and had to work multiple part-time jobs in retail and hospitality while trying to find my place in the graphic design field.

Despite the challenges, I never stopped pursuing my craft as a photographer and graphic designer. I continued creating and connecting with people in the industry.

Then the pandemic hit. During this time, I became a mom and a photography instructor, which I believe marked the beginning of a period where my creativity truly began to bloom.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer and photography instructor. I truly love teaching photography because it allows me to grow and evolve in my craft as well. I specialize in family sessions, portraits, and creative projects.

I would say I am best known for my portraits, family sessions, and mini vlogs on social media, which my audience loves the most. There are two creative projects I am especially proud of: Empowering Your Roots and Vivid Memories. Both are ongoing series centered on visual storytelling.

Empowering Your Roots explores the visual storytelling of our Afro-descendant heritage, celebrating the richness of Caribbean culture. Meanwhile, Vivid Memories captures the essence of human connection through diverse encounters with nature.

What sets me apart is my dedication to creating a memorable experience for anyone who views my work.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I am grateful and thankful for the opportunity to be featured in this magazine and I hope your readers enjoyed about my story.
