Meet Yena Sam of SEW FYI in Arts District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yena Sam.

Yena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started with an idea – to create my own fashion line. I searched for studio space where I could not only create, but learn and be involved in every aspect of creating a fashion line. I was surprised to learn a space like this didn’t exist in Los Angeles so I created one and called it Sew FYI.

Sew FYI is an inspirational community of creators and hobbyists. We provide workshops and help anyone with tight timelines or lack of machinery turn their ideas in to actual products.

I am extremely happy to see my dream become a reality. I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge and guiding those who have interest in the fashion industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everything is a struggle! But I’ve learned and continue to learn every single day. That’s the best part of working for yourself, the challenge forces you to become better and I love that.

Please tell us about SEW FYI.
Sew FYI is a fully functional sewing and design co-working studio. It is a space where creative minds bring their special ideas to reality. The concept for Sew FYI is similar to a gym – we provide the equipment, you bring the creativity. We serve seamstresses, designers, creative people who would like to use the open studio create their own personal unique collection. Our members have full access to tools and guidance to help them create their line, look, or project.

Our studio is designed for the open sharing of ideas in a welcoming environment and co working space. We invite everyone from novice sewers to professional designers to join our community.

To see that I can provide someone a stepping ladder to their career makes me feel proud and love what I do more.
