Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmine Mason, DC.
Dr. Yasmine Mason grew up on a family farm in Nevada understanding the importance of growing organic vegetables and organically raised animals. She spent her days cooking with her dad, a chef, and tending her garden and animals on the farm. With a passion for teaching others about proper nutrition and health, Dr. Yas attended Palmer College of Chiropractic-West in 1996.
In 2000, together with her husband, Derek Mason, DC, they started Lifespring Chiropractic in Newport Beach. After many years in practice, she took some time off to start a family. During that time she began to experiment with traditional fermentation techniques to keep her family and her patients healthy by incorporating gut-friendly foods into their daily diet. She immediately had a knack for fermenting her own zingy yogurt, making tasty krauts, and brewing her flavorful and fizzy kombucha.
Realizing that there was a real need for healthy, organic fermented foods, she opened Fermentation Farm in September of 2014 with the vision of building a strong community of people who share her passion for these handcrafted, traditional foods and drinks. All of these nourishing products are made with only the best fresh, local, and organic ingredients.
In addition to fermented foods, she also stocks Fermentation Farm’s retail shop with her delicious organic bone broths, local gluten-free goodies, local grass-fed and pastured meats, and other handcrafted products.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been a bit bumpy, but no real roadblocks. Our biggest challenge every day for the past four+ years is having enough space to make enough product. We have had the opportunity to acquire more space at our current location as other businesses have left.
Fermentation Farm – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Fermentation Farm specializes in gut-friendly foods. We are known for our fermented veggies, kombucha, and jun on tap, bone broths, and our fermented Master Tonic.
Blending a commercial kitchen where all our foods and drinks are made with a retail shop where we sell our freshly made products sets us apart from others. Our customers love seeing the kitchen in action and knowing all our products are made right there. I can’t believe the outpouring of support from our community!
So many health practitioners in Southern California are sending their patients to us for our organic fermented and traditional foods. I am so proud that I have created a place for healing with food and so many others have placed such trust in us.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Seeing 150+ shoppers coming in every day for our gut-friendly foods and drinks make me so proud. We are in awe at how many people have made us their go-to place for fermented veggies, kombucha, fermented coconut yogurt, and bone broths.
