Meet Yanki Greenspan of Westland Real Estate Group in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yanki Greenspan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Westland Real Estate Group is a family business started by my grandfather. I knew I wanted to work for the company since I was 12. I worked the front desk during the summers through my teenage years. I went to college in New York. I got married and had my first child in my senior year. The day I graduated, we moved back to Long Beach and I finally began my career at Westland. I started as a commercial leasing agent. I would spend several hours every day at my grandfather’s side. I learned everything I know about business from him.

As he became older, he began to retire. I advanced in the company eventually becoming the President of Westland. As President, we have grown this company from 150 employees to 450 employees while adding nearly 10,000 apartment units to our portfolio.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I inherited a great team. There are always bumps in the road but I trust the people around me and somehow, we always pull through.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
WREG owns and managers commercial real estate. We own 1 million SF of commercial shopping centers, 15 mobile home parks and about 12,000 apartments. Until 2011, all of our properties was in Southern California. Since 2011 we have added about 10,000 units in Las Vegas, NV.

We are a family owned and operated fully integrated company with no outside investors. So we manage everything from landscaping to architectural and construction in house. We have our own managers, lawyers, accountants, etc. We also don’t rely on outside investors for our acquisitions. Everything we have come from our own growth of assets.

Our specialty is transforming neglected properties in to thriving locations for people to live, work, and shop.

What were you like growing up?
I was always full of energy. In Middle School I used to buy ferrera pan candirs from Jetro for $3 and sell them for $25. I was never a sports guy or anything. I just liked to have fun.
