Today we’d like to introduce you to Xiomara, Lylybell and Emily Rosas.
Xiomara, Lylybell and Emily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We started TresRosas Floral in 2019 from our usual sister group chats. None of us knew how a business ran, nor knew much of flowers. All we knew was that our love for flowers stemmed from our grandparents, who used to cultivate flowers in Culiacán, Sinaloa. We were given our first opportunity to pop-up at Cactus Coffee in La Verne, on Valentine’s Day, after reaching out to different coffee shops looking for someone who would open their doors to these three clueless mujeres. A month later, we got in contact with the owners of Mi Cafecito Coffee in Pomona and have been floreciendo(blooming) since.
We continue to pop-up at Mi Cafecito till this day and in all honesty, we owe a big part of who we are today to Mi Cafecito Coffee. We’ve met so many small business owners and friends in the short time we’ve been in business and have been able to establish who we want to be as a business run by mujeres(women). Our mamá has raised us to be strong, independent and hardworking women, and not only do we want to be known as “las chicas de las flores” but also as three mujeres Latinas who started a business trusting in themselves. We want to inspire other mujeres who have dreamt of starting their own business, or simply something to call their own.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since starting, it has definitely been a challenge for my sisters and I to find ourselves running an actual business. I mean, we’re businesswomen. To us, personally it even feels weird to say that out loud! The first couple of months, the first challenge was to just put ourselves out there. We chose to dig deep and see what our strengths and weaknesses were. For example, one of us is better at communicating than the others, and one is better at finances, and just small things here and there that we knew we could each manage while starting our small business. After one year, one of the more prevalent challenges we have faced has been aligning our personal goals to the goals of our business. We each have day jobs and personal career goals that we hope to one day achieve while still being able to run our own business.
TresRosas Floral – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
TresRosas Floral is a floral pop-up shop. Like almost every other florist, we do a little bit of everything. Custom bouquets, arrangements, weddings and other big events. We specialize in flower bundles, which we sell during Flower Fridays. We like to say that we try our best to cater to our Latino community. One thing that we wanted as a Latina owned brand was to offer beautiful yet affordable floral bouquets. We created the flower bundle to give our community a more artisanal and still inexpensive option.
We’re proud of where we are today as a business and how far we’ve come. If you would have asked us when we started if we thought we would have collaborated with different artists, have our first set of merch, or even sell out every flower friday, we probably wouldn’t have thought it possible. There’s not too much that sets us apart from other florists. In some way, we are all trying to spread love and happiness with flowers. We are three hermanas running a business together and that’s something people find interesting. We just know that without each other, we wouldn’t be able to continue TresRosas Floral. We have each other’s backs and push each other to be our best selves no matter what.
If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
It may be cliche to say this but our mamá has a saying “hechando a perder se aprende” which in other words means you learn from your mistakes. Personally, we wouldn’t change our journey. It has been really special to do this together.
