Meet Woodland Hills Photographer and Camera Operator: Craig Cockerill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Cockerill.

Craig, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Los Angeles conjures images of sun, clear blue skies, beaches and palm trees. It’s also an energetic metropolis that attracts unconventional thinkers and is home to many of the world’s top visual artists. Born and raised here, I was exposed to the arts and the business of art through my father’s graphic design business where I spent a lot of time as a teenager. After graduating with an MPTV degree from UCLA I pursued work in film and photography and never looked back. I enjoy working with clients, collaborating, storytelling and creating and am always looking for something new and different to try.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have been fortunate to stay busy, enjoy my family and have work take me all over the world. I can’t think of another business that would have opened my eyes to all that I’ve seen.

What role has luck had in your life and career?
Business is often about who you know and our industry is no exception. I’ve been really lucky to know and work wth very talented artists who I consider friends. We never stop learning because there is always new technology and a new way to capture an image. I feel lucky to have learned to keep an open mind and never stop exploring new ideas.

Do you feel like there are certain traits that increase the likelihood of success?
The most important quality is definitely collaboration. Being able to communicate with a client and deliver what they are looking for with a bit of your own style and creative input is paramount.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the ocean. I dive, spearfish, kayak and generally enjoy being at the beach. So other than the great people, food scene, mountains, and art scene, I’d say my favorite part of LA is its coastline. I’m also a fan of downtown’s revitalization! As for the downside of LA, and I doubt I’m alone in this, I’ll go with the traffic.
