Meet Willene Aisporna of We Rise LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Willene Aisporna.

Willene, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I have experienced first-hand the value of having a mentor in one’s life.

Although I was raised in a comfortable home with parents who always had their best interest for me, I ultimately had the power to make my own decisions, which weren’t always the best, and most of which, if I had not had a mentor or positive role model in my life to go to, would have led me down the wrong road. I have since encountered many young people who are in need of the same.

I have seen drastic positive changes in young people when they are given a chance to be heard when they are given opportunities that they do not usually have access to, and simply when they are aware that there is someone in their corner rooting for them no matter what. I have had someone in my life who never gave up on me (even with my stubborn self!) so my desire is that young people get to experience the same so that they too are able to continue to reach their highest potential, all the while, making a positive impact in their communities in the process.

Hence, We Rise LA was created; a mentorship program for youth.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with any new business, or organization in this instance, you start with small beginnings. There is always the thought of the lack of funds, resources, or even volunteers. Starting up is never easy, especially with balancing my own time being a full-time worker, part-time student, and starting up a non-profit organization. Thankfully, we are surrounded by a supportive community who not only believes in our mission but also generously offers their time and resources if and when needed.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with We Rise LA – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
WeRise LA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to raise up young people to become thriving members of their communities. This is done through mentorship, safe alternatives, and leadership development.

Young people make up most of our communities and are the future leaders of the next generation. We Rise LA helps provide guidance to develop those young people into positive leaders in their own communities. We currently offer life skills workshops, Krav Maga, outdoor activities, including hiking and field days, educational field trips, and leadership skills, including volunteer opportunities to serve the community and opportunities for youth participants to be leaders not only in their communities but within the organization.

We also want to provide a space for young people to find their passions and have the resources and a platform to pursue them. Mentorship is the key component and our desire is to develop positive, trusting relationships with our young people and to help them reach their fullest potential.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We definitely look forward to partnering with more schools, community programs, and other organizations. Our goal is to reach as many young people in the San Fernando Valley and to work together with other programs to collectively build up our communities.
