Today we’d like to introduce you to Weina Chen.
Hi Weina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a university professor in the field of education, but also a mother of two young children who are well on their way to becoming multilingual. My eldest, who is four and a half years old, already speaks Chinese and English fluently and has a good understanding of Spanish. Although I don’t speak Spanish, I was eager to find programs to help my children learn Spanish and Chinese. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any suitable programs in our area, so I came up with the idea of starting my own. Starting a school may seem daunting, but I was fortunate enough to partner with a few passionate educators who shared my vision. Together, we created the Bilingual Brains Early Learning Academy. To me, the best part about this initiative is to promote bilingualism and multilingualism to children in our neighborhood, including my very own kids.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our school may be just a few months old, but like any new venture, we’ve faced our fair share of challenges. Each day brings something new, and we’re constantly working to overcome obstacles and improve our operations. Despite this, we feel incredibly fortunate to have found a wonderful location for our school and to have a team of passionate educators on board. Of course, there are always minor issues that we’re working to resolve on a daily basis, but we see these challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. As a new business, we’re still finding our footing, but we’re excited about the journey ahead and the positive impact we hope to make on our students’ lives.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Bilingual Brains, we specialize in providing early childhood language learning programs for children aged six months to six years old. Our mission is to help young children develop a love for languages and build a strong foundation in multiple languages from a young age.
What sets us apart from other language learning programs is we do not focus on “learning the language”. Instead, we immerse children in the target language in everything they do while growing up. We believe that learning a language should be an enjoyable and natural experience, and we strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere where children can feel comfortable and engaged.
We’re also proud of our team of passionate and experienced educators, who are all native or fluent speakers of the languages we teach. They work hard to ensure that our students receive the highest quality language education, using a combination of group instruction, hands-on activities, individualization, and play-based learning.
At Bilingual Brains, we are most proud of our commitment to providing a home-like and native-like experience for our students and their families. We believe that learning a language should be more than just memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules – it should be a natural part of the journey of growing up and cultural immersion.
