Meet Warren Yip of JINS Eyewear in Arcadia and Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Warren Yip.

Warren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started working in the optical / eyewear industry during college and have continued to work since. I first worked for a private optometry for 13 years, and then in 2015 I decided to switch into retail (JINS). One of the things I enjoy the most is helping customers select their glasses. I love how I am their personal stylist and how I’m choosing a pair (or two or three pairs!) they’ll wear for the following year.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road and every day is different. No two patients are the same, and that’s one of the hardest things yet something I also love about my job. As much as I want to write a training manual about everything I know, there are always new challenges that come up.

One of the biggest challenges is learning how to grow as fast as the company is growing. I was at JINS from the beginning when we opened our first flagship store in SF two years ago, and now have four stores in California. I’m learning something new every day, and I’m just trying to keep up with the pace.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with JINS Eyewear – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As you may know, JINS is a Japanese eyewear brand and customers can receive their prescription eyewear in less than 30 minutes and select from over 1,200 styles all designed in Tokyo. Prices of frames start at $60, which include single-vision high-index lenses and standard UV and anti-glare coatings.

I am the District Manager at JINS, meaning I oversee and manage all 4 JINS stores. I am the proudest of our customer service. We have great team members all across the stores and we have one goal in mind, which is to provide the best customer service that we can offer. We pride ourselves on that and I know customers can see and feel it.

We also give back to the community with our Cases for Causes program. We partner with local NPO organizations and design eyewear cases inspired by their missions. The cases are sold for $5, and all the sales go back to the NPO organizations. In LA, we’ve collaborated with Make A Film Foundation and Jumpstart.

We’re different from other eyewear retailers as customers can get their prescription glasses made so quickly (in less than 30 minutes), select from over 1,200 styles and even be able to buy a couple of pairs in one visit since the glasses are affordable.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like about the city – I LOVE the LA weather and the variety of food. I can eat top-notch food from so many different cuisines, including the best Thai, Italian, Korean, Mexican, etc.!

What I least like about the city – The traffic…haha.
