Today we’d like to introduce you to Vinny Balbo.
Vinny, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been living in Los Angeles for about four years. I Briefly attended CalArts in 2014 but felt that college, especially in the arts wasn’t crucial for me. I grew up acting and dancing for as long as I can remember.
Moving to LA to pursue these goals has been the most exciting journey I could have asked for. I’ve had the privilege to travel the world, work on set with some of my biggest inspirations, and create my own art pieces with like-minded friends.
It still baffles me that all the years of shooting short films with friends, and dancing in my parent’s basement as a kid, has materialized to real work that fully satisfies me. I never take it for granted.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely been a road of high highs and low lows. Being a full-time freelance artist is a very very stressful life choice. But damn, is it rewarding. There were many occasions that I would face major self-doubt. Almost talking myself out of this entire career path, but I’ve known nothing but creativity as a lifestyle since I was born. Both of my parents are independent artists, and they’ve been the world’s biggest inspiration for me to keep pushing,
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Acting, Dancing, Directing & Photography have been all the artistic avenues I’ve explored so far. There are so many I still want to dive into. I’m almost overwhelmed. I feel like I don’t have enough time in this life to really do everything I want to do but damn it I’m gonna try!!
When I’m not working, I make sure that I use my time extremely wisely and productively. I’ll try to shoot a short film every month, and a dance video every week. Not necessarily to “pump out content” but because I genuinely feel inspired to constantly create until I basically pass out.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The role of luck plays a HUGE part. But you need to put yourself in the right position for luck to find you. Most people who sit on the couch tapping through Instagram stories won’t find themselves showered with luck in their artistic careers!
