Meet Vincent Brue of Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Brue

Hi Vincent, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started as a baby, crawling around on the floor. Around the age of 20 I began teaching myself how to play various instruments and started writing songs. 25 years later I’ve now written, recorded and released over 40 albums of original material with my various bands and currently have different bands on the East Coast and the West Coast and just recorded a 24-song solo album in the desert.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s been plenty of struggles over the years, everything from not getting the recordings to sound the way we want, to playing countless empty dive bars at midnight on like a Tuesday and nearly getting murdered by the death metal band whose drummer thinks your drummer stole his cymbal felts. Stuff like that.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well I’m a musician/comedian/filmmaker and soon to be author, as I’m self-publishing a book of vignettes from my Uber-driving days called BRUBER next month, which I’m pretty proud of. I also have a YouTube channel with my wife Eve called “Call It Evin” where we’ve done some web series’ and sketches. Musically, my sound spans various sub-genres of rock and roll and lyrically there’s a lotta dark comedy involved, which I try to incorporate into our live shows as well.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Artistically, I think it’s always good to take risks and step out of your comfort zone. What’s the worst that happens, everybody says mean things about you on the internet and also IRL behind your back and all your friends abandon you and you die alone in shame? It’s possible, but most likely nobody’s going to even care. So go for it. Take that risk! I’ve actually done Kevin Allison of The State’s great podcast RISK! a few times where I’ve shared some embarrassing stories. Highly recommend checking that out!
