Today we’d like to introduce you to Vinay Aggarwal.
Vinay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I was an internal medicine resident at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Going back to those days, I’ve always thought about how many aspects of the healthcare system don’t necessarily serve the needs of patients, and how patients never seemed to be at the center of the medical decision-making process. In too many cases, it’s hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies driving decision, rather than patient autonomy.
With that in mind, I’ve known for a long time that I wanted to create a healthcare atmosphere with more direct patient-provider interaction, where patients feel like family.
Now, after developing a robust primary care base and practice in Los Angeles, I began to notice increasing numbers of patients asking for services beyond the typical overall health improvements. I was being asked about body contouring, hormone replacement, and other aesthetic services.
That’s why Self Care LA exists. It represents my shift in focus to include a full range of beauty, aesthetics, and body contouring services. Adding my medical expertise to meet the beauty and aesthetics demand of my patients has been a game changer. I’m an expert in body contouring, coolsculpting, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, weight, and many other aesthetic services. The shift has been amazing for my patients. They love the new focus and are asking for extended hours and additional locations.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m an experienced entrepreneur and with that experience, I can say with full confidence that no path is smooth. Sure, we’ve had struggles along the way. I think the most prominent struggle I’ve faced with this new venture is the ever-present unpredictability of the healthcare market. That can mean shifting government policies or regulations. It can make it incredibly difficult to stay ahead of the curve and figure out what the future of healthcare has in store, which makes planning for the future seem impossible at times. One thing we’re trying is a direct pay model, which cuts out the insurance companies and allows us to continue to place the patients at the center of their own healthcare decision-making process.
Please tell us about Self Care LA.
With Self Care LA, it’s all in the name. We used to be just medical aesthetics, but now it’s all about self-care, too. On the surface, we’re known for a range of services, including hormone replacement therapy, weight loss, and many other aesthetic services such as cellulite reduction, facial rejuvenation, etc. But it’s more than that. Overall, I’m best known amongst my patients for the holistic approach to self-care I oversee. In Self Care LA, I’m proud that my warm, friendly staff and I have created a self-care sanctuary that caters to a high-end, diverse clientele.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was coming in first place at the “break dancing competition” at my dance studio when I was nine years old. I still remember how I was glowing and how supremely confident and comfortable in my own skin I felt at that moment. It was incredible. That’s the feeling I want my patients to have. It’s a wholeness and feeling of immense self-worth. I want to deliver that to my patients.
