Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Loza.
Victoria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story starts ten years ago, I was 19 years old and I was overweight close to 200 lbs (I was around 190 lbs, I’m 5’3). One day my mom told me in Spanish of course “Victoria you’re overweight, you’re only 19 years old what are you doing with your life?!” (Mexican women have no filter) I was hurt by her words but realized she was 100% correct and the next day I started working out to some Jillian Michaels workout videos and insanity at home. I didn’t want to go to the gym I was embarrassed because I had no idea what I was doing and I felt like everyone was judging me. I kept doing my at home workouts for about six months and eventually lost about 60-70 lbs.
Fast forward to about four years I had managed to keep all the weight off but I now wanted to get in the gym and actually start lifting weights but I had no idea where to start. I had a good friend that was constantly in the gym and I asked him if I could follow him around the gym and mimic exactly what he does. I worked out with my friend for quite some time, along with looking up YouTube and Instagram videos. I ended up hiring a personal trainer a couple of years later and competed in a bodybuilding competition (Placed about 8th place.) When I was training for the competition, I had asked my trainer how he became a personal trainer and he explained to me how he got his certification. I ended up buying a program and taking my certification test and passed. I never planned on becoming a personal trainer I was a personal assistant at the time for a car parts company.
One day my old boss and I had an argument and I ended up quitting my job, I had no idea what I was going to do for work so I decided to put my certification to use. I ended up in a private gym in North Hollywood and I started training my clients there. The first year of personal training was horrible and extremely slow and I very much wanted to give up but I had an extremely supportive boyfriend at the time who didn’t let me quit. Four years later here I am still not giving up and training clients full time working 12-14 hour days. I also run an amazing bootcamp in LA each month that sells out from anywhere to 50-100 women. It was extremely popular this year that I ended up taking it to Chicago, NY, Houston and Dallas. Praying it becomes worldwide.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road there’s been plenty of times when I just say to myself “what are you doing? you’re never going to make it, just get a regular 9-5.” It’s been a lot of self-doubt but I know I was meant for something bigger than me so I don’t give up.
Please tell us about Vickythefitchick.
My company name is called VICKYTHEFITCHICK. I am a personal trainer based out of North Hollywood, CA. I train clients full time anywhere from 10-14 hours a day. Right now, I am a one woman show, I handle my own Instagram account, all my clients and I also host bootcamps once a month in LA. I host away bootcamps as well, which I am so proud of. The fact that I can go to a different city and get 50+ woman for a bootcamp feels amazing. What sets me apart from other trainers is the fact that I actually build a bond with my clients, we grow this friendship and trust which you need in any relationship in order to grow.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be when I was four years old and my mom took me to Disneyland for the first time ever! It was amazing.
