Meet Veronica Clanton-Higgins of VCH Prosperity Consulting in South Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Clanton-Higgins.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Veronica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Sisterhood. That’s how I started. I would always have women reach out to me for assistance, for guidance, for support. Many times they stated that it was hard to connect or meet women that they ‘vibed’ with. This essentially created a void in their life. Growing up, I had my sister and brother. Although my relationship with my sister was not perfect, we always had each other.

As I became an adult, I often sought after organizations that fostered the sense of sisterhood. I was drawn to it. Coincidentally, I also realized the need in my community for sisterhood, Women looking to find space spaces with other like-minded women who vibrating at the same frequency. So I decided to start a group coaching program called S.O.S, Squad of Survivors. This group was virtual and physical. I wanted to provide that space for women to connect, be vulnerable, get healing, and support.

Women in the program are always encouraged to ‘hold space’ for each other. Holding space means that they are present in the moment for another woman. Holding space can be done just by being a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, or through encouragement. I have done several squads (cohorts) and group workshops.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth! Sometimes logistics aren’t always in sync with what I wanted to do. For instance, the women wanted to do monthly physical workshops. In the beginning it was not possible because I had so many different cohorts overlapping (will never do that again!). Also because I catered to women who are low or middle income, many of my events were free, which means that any incidentals (food, location fees, etc.) were covered by myself. This prohibited me from doing the amount of workshops that I desired.

Once there was an individual in the group who needs additional emotional support and projects that onto the other women, which can disrupt the energy. So a couple of times I found myself doing one-on-one coaching to address the issue with the individual, which then I had to determine if that person was a fit for the group.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the VCH Prosperity Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
VCH Prosperity Consulting provides life coaching, group coaching, workshop facilitation, organizational consulting, and curriculum development. I create mindfulness based curriculum and coaching plans that.

I specialize in assisting individuals, in particular women:
* Gain clarity on who they are and what their purpose in life is
* Guide individuals in removing blockages that may be impacting their sense of self (self-esteem)
* Provide individuals with finding fulfillment and direction by guiding them in their journey to discover their ‘happy”

I am known for being happy and helping others feel the same. Energy is contagious and I have often been told that I have ‘good’ energy. That actually makes me feel ..happy! It is important that people feel comfort around me because it allows me to assist them into tapping into their internal well of happiness!

What sets me apart from others is my life lens. I have experienced a multitude of traumas and setback (suicide attempts, incarceration, gang involvement, domestic violence, etc.) When I was at the lowest point in my life, I had to re-learn how to feel, think, and connect to others. I had to start over emotionally. I dug myself out of a dark hole and learned how to smile again. So when I work with women who are struggling and going through the same thing…I can truly say that I understand. I work with the women that are often forgotten or overlooked. The ones who don’t have the fancy jobs or income. The ones who want help but can’t afford it. The ones that show up, but aren’t present. I see them. Even when no one else does. That is what sets me apart.

My goal is to empower one hundred women to not walk in their hurt but to reclaim their power and live life on purpose.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There has been a shift in the mental health and life coaching arena. People now understand that emotional health is just as important as physical health. This is going to cause a rise in individuals seeking mental health counseling and life coaching services over the next five years. The trend of mind, body, and spirit wellness is shifting the paradigm on how self-care is perceived. I am excited about this trend and the impact it is going to have on the industry over the next few years!
