Meet Vanessa Viola of Viola Photography in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Viola.

Vanessa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a thing for documenting life. My dad bought a camcorder when I was 8, that’s when I fell in love with being in front of and behind the scenes. Later in life, I went on to get my BA in communications with an emphasis in Media Arts, dabbling in all aspects of new media. I moved to LA after college and spent most of my time in front of the camera. In 2015, I decided to jump behind the lens and pursue photography as a hobby. One thing led to the next and here I am today working on building a business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been struggles. The first day I took my camera on a hike with me and I had no idea what I was doing, learning how to use it was a struggle. I spent a lot of time walking around the city shooting snippets of shadow and light, working on getting my exposure right. Turning photoshoot time into playtime with my son, struggle… he’s not the biggest fan of being in front of the camera, yet was such a good sport. I’m now learning how to grow and manage my business, something I’ve never done on my own before. I’m blessed to have mentors in the business who have guided me along the way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Viola Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a lifestyle photographer specializing in shooting celebrities, children, and couple boudoir. I’m most proud of the connections I make with people when I shoot them. It’s what I love most about my job. I’m a people person, I love a good chat, a good laugh, and a good time. I love capturing a person’s spirit, their soul, who they really are.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’d like to help local businesses keep their company current. My goal is to connect small business owners with influencers who can promote their product on various social media platforms.
