Meet Vanessa Vazart of Space V&T in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Vazart.

Vanessa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got to Interior Design by way of fashion. I worked in the fashion business for years and experienced many different facets of it. I always loved decorating my home and taking my inspiration from fashion, film, music, art, and travel. The year my daughter Lilli was born, I decided it was time to take the leap. I begged my best friend T’ien to take that leap with me. She was also working in the fashion business and was aching to delve into something more creative.

She had grown up with an interior architect mom and knew more about the technicalities of the interiors world than I. Together, we learned a lot – mostly from our mistakes and successes! We were very lucky and immediately had clients trust our aesthetic and hire us to decorate their homes. Smaller projects turned into much larger ones over the years, and almost ten years later we have a roster of residential, commercial, and hospitality clients we are very proud of!

I truly believe in the timing and manifestation of our career path, and where we find ourselves today. T’ien and I both had a very clear vision of what we wanted, and where we wanted (and still want!) to go. We never tire of seeing our design transformations come to life as they are a constant source of inspiration for us to push further and to keep learning, testing design boundaries, and most of all having fun!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all! Since neither of us has a formal education in interior design, our education came from being on the field, and sometimes at the expense of us losing money and time. However, we always found ways to make up for that lack of knowledge in other ways.

Our aesthetic vision is strong and has informed our spaces since day 1. Like our sense of personal style, our interiors transcend trends. I can say with certainty that what we did not learn in a classroom, has made us more curious, more unassuming, more creative, and more successful today.

Space V&T – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our company started out as “Curated Spaces” nine years ago, but it has since been renamed “Space V&T.” Some of our earliest vendors still refer to us as “the girls from Curated Spaces,” and others simply refer to us as “the girls.” Most of the time, when we walk into showrooms and stores, we are greeted with “hey girls!”

Our business is interior design, and as such, we specialize in transforming spaces. I think what sets us apart is that we aren’t confined by the rules of a stringent interior design guide, but that rather we are informed by our instinct, and by the savvy that comes from traveling the world.

From working most of our lives in fashion and understanding fabrics, textures, and color, from having a real passion for music and film and art, and a deep appreciation of the influence that culture has on the world of design.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our success is measured by big and small victories every day. How much fun we have doing what we do, how happy we make each client, and how we are able to even transform a part of their lives that in turn brings them more joy and fulfillment.

We find happiness in watching our ideas come to life, and later have them be published because someone else thinks they are worthy. The creative process is always evolving and growing, and our criteria is to constantly ensure we are enjoying the process and bringing that joy that we have in what we do into our client’s world.

When someone is truly ecstatic about their craft, it spreads like wildfire, and only good things can come of that…
