Meet Vanessa Michelle of Vanessa Michelle Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Michelle.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Vanessa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had a camera in my hands, capturing anything that caught my eye. I never thought to be a photographer until I was pregnant with my first son. I had my maternity photos taken and I was really intrigued by how the photographer was capturing this moment in my life. I asked her many questions and she mentioned a school that was close by. I ended up attending and learning the basics of how to work and understand my camera. It was then when I realized this is what I want to do in life. Now how can I turn my hobby into a career?

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely bumps in the road. I was very intimidated with working with people. It’s very different than photographing flowers or rocks that don’t talk back or move much. I worked with close friends and family until I was comfortable with others.

Then decided to finally make a business page on social media to attract more clients and showcase my work. In this industry, there are many different types of styles along with personalities. I then realized you have to keep the negative people out of your life if you want to succeed.

In the end, I have made some of the most amazing friends throughout this journey who share the same passion as I do with photography.

Please tell us about Vanessa Michelle Photography.
My business started in 2012 after my son was born. I knew I could never go back to working a 9-5 job with a newborn. I didn’t want anyone to watch over my son other than me. I put everything I had to make my business successful. I stuck to my name Vanessa Michelle Photography. I honestly couldn’t think of anything else that people would be able to remember other than my name. I specialize in portraits & event photography. I am known for my vibrant images and storytelling.

I am most proud of how much business has grown over the years. I couldn’t have done it without the support from my family, friends and returning clients. What sets me apart from other photographers, I would say I truly want to get to know the people I am going to work with. I will not shoot an event until I have a consultation with my client, I want to make sure I am the photographer for them. I want to be able to tell their story and capture lifelong memories that they will cherish for forever. I stay true to my word and remain myself.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I think I would have wanted to have the confidence I have now in myself. I also would have stayed away from the people who continued to put me down as I was finding my style and learning as a photographer and business owner.
