Meet Vanessa Martinez of Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Martinez

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started at The Picture Framing Co 10 years ago as a lead designer/manager. As of March of this year I am now the proud owner. Before joining The Picture Framing Co I was in retail management for about 15 years. I’ve always loved design so the transition was fairly easy for me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been smooth because with anything new you have to learn the ropes. Although I always had a good eye for design, I still had to learn the technical aspects and all the other things that go into picture framing. But once I got it I fell in love with it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The Picture Framing Co. specializes in archival picture framing. We consult with our clients to discuss their preferences, including the style of frame, matting, and materials that complement both the artwork and the intended display space. In addition to picture framing, we offer art restoration and canvas stretching. We are known for our extensive frame options. When clients come into our shop, they often comment on the variety and amount of frame samples we have. I think one of the things that sets us apart is that we are woman-owned, and we like to have fun and incorporate our creative side into picture framing.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think most people would be surprised that I was born in El Salvador and grew up in Venice, CA.
