Meet Vanessa Magdaleno of Elevate Wellness in Tustin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Magdaleno.

Vanessa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2011, I was experiencing sciatica pain. Since I was eight months pregnant there wasn’t much to do about it, so I started receiving massage every week for the last month of pregnancy. I asked my therapist lots of questions about the industry and I knew this was it! I was in a corporate job and wanted very much to be able to help people and have flexibility. I researched massage schools for one year and had my second child during that time. While in night school, I was a childcare provider in the day which allowed me to have my children with me. Once I received my certification, I worked for a corporate Spa and quickly moved on to a chiropractor. after two years of working for other people, I began my own practice as a mobile massage therapist in Orange County. Once I established myself, I rented Office space to begin building my stationary practice. It has been such a pleasure in this field and I’ve met so many awesome people. I have now added aesthetics to my business as well.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely was not a smooth road. When I first started school, I had a newborn baby and an 18 months old so that made it difficult. I had never owned a business before either so I had to learn everything and built from the ground up. I had to gain confidence in charging my worth, setting boundaries, and making the best business decisions.

Elevate Wellness – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At Elevate Wellness, we are firm believers in taking care of the body, mind & soul. We are not just a massage center. We combine intuitively guided touch and individualized sessions which include the healing elements of sound frequency, soothing light and an array of therapeutic essential oils to leave your body, mind, and soul on an elevated level.

I use a variety of methods including deep tissue, Swedish, trigger point, and stretching. I include tuning forks, singing bowls, crystals, and cupping in my sessions if needed. The session time that is booked is the full-time Hands-On, I believe this sets me apart from your traditional Spa setting of 50 and 80-minute sessions. Being a small business allows me to build relationships with my clients so that there is a level of trust like no other. I pride myself on really listening to their needs and educating when necessary.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far was signing the lease to my very own office space! It was four years in the making and I did it!
