Meet Valter Paiva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valter Paiva.

Valter, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am the third child in a family of five children. My first contact with tennis was at the age of nine when I worked as a ball kid. Five years later, I started playing in tournaments and became one of the best junior players in Brazil and Sao-Paulo. Since my family didn’t have much and was struggling, at the age of 15, I started teaching tennis at the Club Athletico Indiano and Sociedade Harmonia de Tenis so that I could contribute financially and help my family.

All my hard work over the years paid off, and I was offered a full scholarship to Hampton University in VA, where I graduated in Marketing and Sports Management in 2005. After I graduated, I was offered a job as a tennis coach at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Long Beach, California. I quickly became the head coach and, three years later, I opened my own Tennis Academy at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center – the Valter Paiva Tennis Academy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting your own business is never easy, and often the biggest struggle is the financial difficulties that can come with it. Although it wasn’t always a smooth road, it was all worth it as I am very proud to run my Tennis Academy and see how many children, teens, and adults benefit from the tennis lessons and camps we offer.

As I often say to my student, difficulties will always be there, but they are never a reason to give up. “We are what we repeatedly do… Excellence is not an act but a habit.” Aristotle

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Valter Paiva Tennis Academy – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Valter Paiva Tennis Academy has been around for over ten years! We celebrated our 10th year in business in 2018. We are proud to offer a variety of programs for children and teens, such as:

Junior Programs:
– Full Day & Half Day Summer Camps
– Thanksgiving Camp
– Winter Camp
– Spring Break Camp
– After School Programs ages 5 to 17
– Private and semi-private lessons

We also offer Adult Clinics, Private and Semi-Private lessons for adult players. We specialize in junior players and in sharing the joy and passion we have for tennis to the young ones. We are known for making tennis FUN, and inspiring young players to want to get better.

As a family-owned business, we are also known for our great customer service because we really do care about our customers.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are currently working on improving and fine-tuning all the existing programs we offer to make sure we satisfy our customers. We are also creating a new program that we will launch shortly that will be focused on our existing students.

The growth of our academy comes with the need to hire more coaches and train them – this is also something we are currently working on. It is important for us to offer the best coaching possible and we train our coaches accordingly.

As always, we are getting ready for our next camp! The participation level has been consistently increasing, and we need to be ready for a full house again for our Spring Break Camp and our Summer Camp.
