Meet Valerie Ramirez of The Lab Studios in West Covina

Today we’d like to give you an inside look at The Lab Studios.

The Lab opened its doors in 2011, expanding from a 1,200 sq. ft. one-room dance studio owned by Valerie Ramirez (who started the business when she was only 17), to a 7,500 sq. ft. space which included a tumbling gym for athletes of all kinds. Just over a year later, The Lab moved into its current 12,000 sq. ft. location in West Covina.

After the initial move, the mission was to train every student to reach their full potential by focusing on both mental and movement education. Lessons in determination, self-awareness and being responsible for the energy you bring into a room became a staple in all training, from beginning to professional students.

As the word spread about the Olympic style training in the Southern California facility, The Lab became home to dancers and athletes from around the globe. Viral sensation and young creative masterminds Sienna Lalau & Andrew Elam have been head choreographers for some of The Lab’s biggest projects. They have caught the eye of mega artists such as JLo, BTS, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Lil Kim, Chris Brown to name a few.

Winning prestigious awards and competitions helped the studio gain notoriety in the hip hop community and the entertainment industry. In 2018, The Lab was crowned the Champions of NBC’s World of Dance (a network hit Executively Produced by Jennifer Lopez).

The Lab Studios includes weekly dance and tumbling training, primarily for students under 25. They also have a professional Production Company, The Lab Productions, which houses their Creative Team and professional talent. The Lab has performed all over the globe. A few highlights from 2019 include a private event performance at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, a special promotion for hit Disney movie, Mary Poppins Returns, Union Station in Washington DC, the New Years Eve ball drop at Times Square, The Ellen Show, Nickelodeon, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Morning America, NBA Dallas Mavericks halftime, a special production on the BTS world tour at the Rose Bowl, and of course, we have to mention the most incredible opportunity of getting to go on Jlo’s “It’s My Party” World Tour this summer where we performed 37 shows in 33 cities and 6 different countries in three months!!

From community, industry to production, The Lab is well equipped to produce your next video or live stage performance.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not always been smooth, but the joy I have found has been in the journey and learning how to navigate through everything that comes our way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Lab Studios – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The Lab Studios specializes in Olympic style dance training, live performance, visual direction and talent/production management.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking forward to another year of collaborative projects, mentorships, and creating memorable moments on stage to be shared by all of our performers at The Lab.
