Today we’d like to introduce you to Valentina Zargaryan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Went to work at a corporate hair salon in the mall as a salon coordinator while I was in college trying to become a life coach, dropped out of college and walked out with a career four years later. Had an amazing complimentary education program and left with NO DEBT. Been independent for the last three years and growing intensively each year.
Has it been a smooth road?
Lots of struggles! Financial struggles because I was getting paid minimum wage for two years, I was working my regular assistant program and hustling on the side trying to make some extra money and get some more practice for my skills, struggled with bullying in the industry, people seeing my gift and trying to make me believe that I was talentless and would not go far. Struggled with acceptance from my community and family members because they didn’t believe the career I chose was respectable. I still struggle, this living life authentically and choosing your own path thing is not easy, but I’m a winner and winners don’t quit on themselves.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the ValRocksMyLocks story. Tell us more about the business.
I am an independent hairstylist specializing in balayage, color corrections, haircuts, and extensions. I am mostly known for my balayage. I am proud of myself and my company because it’s always changing, embracing change and welcoming new is the vibe I thrive on and pass on to my clients. I am very close with my clients, they are my family. What sets me apart from the rest is that when you come to sit down and get your hair done with me, it’s all about you, let’s talk about what you want, let’s talk about your needs, let’s talk about what you don’t like, let’s drink what you want to drink, let’s order from the place you want to eat, I will hype you up like you have never been hyped in your life, you come to get your hair done but when you walk out you might just be able to take over the whole world. I preach words of wisdom to my clients and speak life to them while I make them beautiful. So they can be beautiful on the inside too and not just the outside.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I never really cared too deeply about the industry as a whole. Of course, I love to learn and be inspired and look at beautiful artistry from people in the industry, however I am all about staying true to what I think is beautiful. Just because a hair cut is not in trend anymore doesn’t mean that it’s not still a bomb hair cut that specifically this person can rock and rock it WELL. I make my own trends, I like what I like and I work closely with my clients on choosing the perfect color or haircut to the client’s style and lifestyle, I also help them with colors that will look best on them with their new dos. But I will say that WIGS AND EXTENSIONS are stepping the industry up !! WIGS are my new addiction!
