Today we’d like to introduce you to Ursula Lari.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Peru. I arrived to USA in 2007 when I was 39 with my three minors daughters to work full time. I was not easy but now we MADE IT, I feel happy and proud of ourselves. The talent of my daughters was the trigger to do this move to arrive to this beautiful country who embraced us to reach our goals. I am a multitasking person, full of energy and positives thoughts. I successfully made the effort to learn the language and learn about the culture to live according with my new neighbors and co-workers. I am a D.D.S graduated in the most recognized university in Peru, I received the legacy about the music in my life and the talent for sports (from a National Record swimmer, Triathlon competitor, Modern Penthatalon athlete, Fencer… This leads me to enjoy life in different ways, through experiences in international competitions representing my homeland in Fencing, all the way to the Pan-American Games in Cuba 1991. Yes, we had adversity while trying to make things work in a new country and new home, but with patience and perseverance, we can reach many unthinkable things. Nowadays, I live working in Orthodontics, that it’s my specialty, training Jiu Jitsu that is one of my two passions and playing the guitar wherever I can. I have met in this country amazing people that have inspired me intellectually and physically to be at my 52, full of life and willing to keep on enjoying this Journey.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it was not, but the positives overcome the negatives. The paperwork is long and requires a lot of patience. Being on charge of the family while working full time is certainly not easy when they are all young and the income is still not enough to pay for a nanny or daycares. I was blessed on finding people that have been crucial in my life here in USA. My main motor is and have been the love for my daughters to overcome any obstacle. They are my reason and my strength. Pierre Quinton, my friend and partner in life and support in every project and the reason I moved to L.A, Dr. Sandra Kahn, my friend and mentor and my intellectual inspiration who gave me my first job and we still work together. Sensei Louie Cercedez, my friend and coach, who is teaching me the art of fighting through Jiu-Jitsu. Gio Lombardi, professional guitar player and teacher, who developed to present my passion for music as my friend and guitar teacher. To them and to many more people, ALL my gratitude forever.
Please tell us about Holistic Orthodontics.
As an orthodontics, I work at HOLISTIC ORTHODONTICS with Dr. David Berrios. We are specialize on Orthotropics, which is a better way than orthodontics to solve “crooked” teeth and to design the best smile. We are focussed in health as a priority so breathing is for us the most important, second is the face and profile, working in correct the growth of the bones and provide a balanced and well-structured face. After considering this, we proceed to work on the teeth, providing the best alignment according with the patient’s goals for a beautiful smile. To achieve all of this, we involve working on the posture of the body and the face, since we see every patient in an integral way and not the teeth only. There is basically no one doing what we do in HOLISTIC ORTHODONTICS, this is why we receive patients that come from very far away of the Valley. There are very few Orthotropics practices in USA that involve all we offer to our patients.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
First, I enjoy and love what I do. Every patient is a different challenge and I place my best effort every day on their goals. No effort is too much for me in order to give a patient what they came to look for. I feel happy. Second, I have studied and continued studying to be as skilled as I am in the subject. With more than 25 years doing this, I have learned many techniques and I have built many experiences in what I do… I feel confident and with all the “tools” to provide the best care to our patients.
