Meet Ursula Brown and Wendi Riser of Friends of Hermon Dog Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ursula Brown and Wendi Riser.

Ursula and Wendi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We petitioned the city for a dog park initially for Eagle Rock and failed to secure space so the issue was revisited for Highland Park and ended up in the community of Hermon where Wendi Riser picked up and got it done. We have been working with Dept of Recreation and Parks and councilmember, as well as Urban Forestry and facing their internal problems and delays in maintaining the park’s appearance.

We have a core membership at $10 per year to purchase supplies like poop scoops and bags and have done roque jobs like planting more shade trees outside of obtaining permission. Our events held at the park are too many to mention here – but it seems the general public has lost interest to a great extent.

The only other active dog park group is at Sepulveda Basin park.

I am a retired property manager and currently volunteer for 4 other groups and also keep street trees and drought tolerant plantings watered driving a tanker truck with volunteers in Eagle Rock several times a week. I like to party and socialize and have a large group of friends and acquaintances. I am an immigrant of Germany.
