Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrone Thomas.
Hi Tyrone, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Tyrone Lavan Thomas Jr, and I’m aspiring photographer
I first started photography in middle school, where our teacher gave us Canon camera and told us shoot where we live and our community. I won an award for it my teachers believed I had the most real and authentic photos; I took pictures of everyone and everything that meant something to me and my community
And also, because my girlfriend is a model, and I had the idea around Covid time, we could save money if I took the headshots and body shots instead of paying someone else
So, I went on offer up and found a Nikon for a very good price, but the owner blessed me and gave it to me for free because his daughter was a up and coming photographer, and that was her first camera that helped her, so he wanted to help me
At this point, everything is falling into the right place
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, there have been a lot of struggles along the way; you have people canceling bookings at the last minute, fighting yourself mentally thinking your photos aren’t the best, also purchasing new Camera equipment and it’s very expensive, also finding the right peer space to book for certain shoots.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an aspiring photographer coming out of South-Central Los Angeles
I specialize in runway modeling and also print, but I dibble and dabble in free-flow work like party events, champagne parties etc.
I feel as if I’m most known for using natural lightings so you can see the realness of the person without using all those edits most photographers use
I’m most proud of shooting the cover photo for TWIF Magazine for their first cover of the year of 2024
I feel what sets me apart from other photographers is most photographers are older gentlemen; me on the other hand, I’m young and energetic, and I come from the urban community of South Los Angeles, so I feel as if I bring the Streets to the camera and show more of a realness behind the lens
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I’m free to work with anyone; I love to connect with different people who share the same ideas and different. You can support me by following my photography page and help me show the world what an urban kid can achieve
