Meet Tyler Morgan of La Brea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Morgan

Tyler, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I moved out here in 2021 to pursue a career in music. I’m originally from NC and I’d discovered my passion for songwriting in college while in Japan. There’s a whole other story there but I don’t want to waste time explaining 5 years of my life.
Here’s the brief summary of my LA experience so far.
I got scammed on Airbnb (lied about the location) and ended up moving into my now girlfriends house day 1 of meeting her and her family. I guess I give off decent human vibes. I started working at Apple towards the end of the year and loved it, not the 1.5 hour drive or the 101 traffic, but the work itself was pretty fulfilling and enjoyable. I was trying to get promoted to a higher position and ended up running into some pretty serious issues with the manager in charge of that section. I got covid+flu and they treated it terribly. That was kind of my last straw and I even had to threaten suing just to get my final paycheck. Yeah, don’t be surprised if management at apple the grove is shit, that store manager is absolute trash and treats people like scum.
I quit and started working for my girlfriend’s dad in the prop industry and while doing that I started making TikTok’s. Just for me really almost as a form of therapy. I made one TikTok talking about my honest opinion on current apple products as a former employee. Mainly because I thought it would be interesting for people to hear the perspective of someone who’d actually been behind those shiny white doors. I may not have been corporate, but I was at just the right level where I could talk shit and not have a lawsuit on my hands. The video blew up and sine then I haven’t slowed down and have kept trying to create meaningful content. Well…maybe not always meaningful but hopefully entertaining/ educational content.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not, the past 2-3 years have probably been some of the most difficult of my life. I’ve been kicked out of my home in NC, borderline homeless, borrowed money from family which is always a shitty feeling, and the entire time I’ve been in LA I’ve had this feeling that I’m mooching off my girlfriends family. So no it’s absolutely been a struggle mentally, physically, every kind of way.
The main struggles once I started doing content creation full time were really finding ideas that were still meaningful to me. I’ve had managers and they’ve tried to change the direction, tried to lock me into one kind of niche, even change my username and it’s just always a battle. The one thing I’ve learned that not many people take a second to realize is that YOU are the only one who’s got YOUR best interest in mind. Even when working with family, it’s YOU

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I guess I’m most known for my apple reviews and honest opinions. Tips and tricks, tech reviews, worth buying or not. Possibly being the guy who dated his high school Japanese teacher..
From what others tell me, what sets me apart is how natural I am about my content I suppose? I’m probably not phrasing it well but it seems like my being so casual is uncommon?
I’m most proud of being able to payoff my loans and help my sister go to school now. I’m honestly still trying to make content to be proud of, hopefully it’ll be something other than tech and apple content.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I feel like I’ve been kinda lucky my whole life. The story of my current living circumstance is a great example of that. Things just have a way of working out if you let them so I don’t question it. I know the first 500k I got was probably luck but I know I worked for the rest.
