Today we’d like to introduce you to Twanita Dozier.
Twanita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In early 2017, I had a business that was struggling to get visibility and support. Not only was I experiencing this, but other people I knew with businesses were going through the same thing. Upon reflecting on these issues and searching for a solution, I came up with the vision of Boss Up Magazine – as my own solution! As a minority woman business owner, I felt that it was essential to make my platform a resource for emerging entrepreneurs with the focus being of those of color. As my platform progressed, I began to see that my platform needed to expand outside of just a digital magazine. From 2017 to now, my platform has expanded to a podcast, print magazine, social networking events, TV show, and mobile app! Expanding my platform to these entities has allowed to me expand my reach and cater to any business owner – regardless of their current level.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building my platform has definitely had its challenges! I went through a lot of people doubting my platform and its value. The doubt and negative opinions of my platform didn’t bother me at all, because I know that with anything you do – someone will have an opinion. However, the most challenging thing for me was building my platform alone. This was very challenging, due to me managing a full-time job, my marriage, my children, and life in general! But through my challenges, my platform success has given me a rewarding experience that makes everything worth it. I’m just so happy that I didn’t allow the opinions of other stop me and my vision!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Boss Up Magazine is a multimedia platform that highlights emerging entrepreneurs from around the world! My platform offers emerging minority owned businesses, organizations, and brands a platform to be highlighted and celebrated. Boss Up Magazine offers many options of recognition such as: podcasts, print magazine, TV Show, social networking events, and mobile app. I am not aware of another platform that offers ALL of these things, which I believe sets me apart from other media platforms. My platform not only bridges the gap between emerging entrepreneurs and media, but empowers those that it serves!
What were you like growing up?
I am a Chicago native that grew up with love and support of all that I ever showed interest in. My family made sure to always encourage me to be my best and experience things that piqued my interest. I must say that this has kept me on a steady path and allowed me to find myself growing up. Growing up, I showed interest in dancing, teaching, volunteering, media, and communications. As I went through high school and college, I realized that all of my interests as a child came full circle, and allowed me to experience some pretty amazing things! As I reflect upon these things, I am grateful that I was led in this direction because it has helped shaped me into the person I am today!
