Meet Tsolair Hovsepian of The Dental Studio in Encino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tsolair Hovsepian.

Tsolair, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a true native of Los Angeles, I was born in Santa Monica, CA, raised in West LA, and currently live in Sherman Oaks. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychobiology from UCLA in 2000, and my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from UCLA in 2004. I have been in private practice since graduation from dental school, in dental offices all over the city. I bought my first dental practice in 2009 and sold it in 2013, after having my third, so that I could spend some quality time with the family. I did continue working for several different dental offices, as my love for practicing dentistry fueled me to continue to strive to be the best dentist I could be. As the years passed by, I felt the entrepreneurial “itch” and decided that it was time to become a business owner again! This time around I was very picky about the details of my next business venture as a dentist, mainly the location. I really wanted a retail-style setting, and the convenience factor (in relation to my home, as well as my kids’ school) was key. After many failed attempts to find the perfect spot, I finally stumbled across the dental practice that was for sale in the same building where I would spend countless hours almost every day after picking up my kids, at my daughters’ dance studio! The Plaza de Oro shopping center is a large, well-known retail center in the community. And best of all, it has ample free parking! There were many other dentists vying for this practice, but the dentist who was selling it found me to be the best fit. Our practice philosophies were almost identical. The size, price, and location were just perfect for what I was looking for. So, I moved in on June 1st of 2017. I did a little bit of cosmetic updating and decorating to freshen it up. I inherited the staff members, who are absolutely lovely and have such a wonderful work ethic. I feel so blessed to be exactly where I have always dreamed to be and cannot wait to share my passion and experience with my community!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What is a perfect situation without a few bumps in the road? As a mother and a careerwoman, it has been difficult to maintain the perfect balance between family, home, and work. As a new mother and woman starting out in her career, I never felt as though I was able to fulfill all of my duties in either realm. I would always have a sense of guilt looming over me, and I never felt fully settled. Having to sell my Northridge practice in 2013 was a difficult decision, but one that I learned a lot from. I learned that in order to be able to successfully juggle motherhood and business, convenience would be of utmost importance. I also realized afterwards (when I went back to working for others) that every single minute of the day is absolutely precious, and should be prioritized. This is when I realized that for me, having 3 kids (now all in school full time), business ownership would allow me more flexibility to prioritize my time and schedule between my career and family. The fact that I was able to settle into a business that allowed me exceptional convenience is an absolute blessing.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Dental Studio – what should we know?
At The Dental Studio, I strive to create an environment where patients are treated like family and they feel comfortable knowing that they are receiving the best quality dental care, with a gentle touch, and affordable pricing. We are very customer service oriented, and try to accommodate the needs of all of our patients. I personally love to do cosmetic dentistry and my forte over the years has been custom chairside composite veneers. I also love to work on patients of all ages, so the entire family can come together for their dental appointments.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Honesty and ethics is an absolute priority of mine. I have always been very honest and conservative with my treatment planning, and always use the best quality dental materials no matter what. I also always make a great effort to work as gently and efficiently as possible in order to make the patients’ experience at the dentist as pleasant as possible.
