Meet Troy Miller of f64 Live in Corona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Miller.

Troy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a wedding photographer going on 30 years full-time with my wife Marjorie. Marjorie bought me my first camera while we were still dating in high school and I never put the camera down. Today, photography is my main creative outlet as well as how we make our living. Photography is a wonderfully evolving art form that is both tactile and digital. Throughout my journey, I have always held the belief that if we have a skill and if there of people wanting to learn the skill you have, then teach. I have been involved in teaching, mentoring and organizing events for nearly a decade. The skill and discipline of photography and as a business is not one easily learned in a classroom but rather through mentorships and hands on. I have always tried to be involved in the education and sharing as much as possible which lead to the creation of f64 Live.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been terribly difficult but the challenges to building a business, mastering your craft then trying to get people to “see” you is immensely difficult. The biggest uphill challenge I have faced in any facet of any of my business is getting eyes on what I am offering. I know my offering is worthy and I can deliver, but I need people to know I exist.

Please tell us about f64 Live.
I have formed f64 Live to be the event I wanted to attend. f64 Live is not a conference or a trade show. f64 Live is an immersive and playfully educational event created to inspire and motive photographers of all skill levels.

When trying to learn photography, most turn to resources such as online tutorials, blog articles, and meet-ups. The common issue with these options, though, is a lack of opportunity to practice what they’ve learned with a seasoned professional alongside them.

At f64 Live, we host the industry’s top professionals to share their expertise at live events, webinars, and other exciting environments where photographers—professionals, beginners, and hobbyists alike— can put what they learn into practice through hands-on instruction.

What I am most proud of and what sets up apart is that we are all about the attendee. Every decision from what’s for lunch to what models and instructors we bring in as well as the vendors we work with are all aimed at creating an experience that will not only educate but provide guidance and motivation for each attendee.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?

Hard work and eyes on the prize! I have also been very fortunate to meet wonderful people in all spectrums of my business. Without their help, I would not have made it through day one.
