Meet Joe Borress of Tri Star Electric and Tri Star Automation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Borress.

Joe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 1992 I started In the NYC electrical. Construction business started by my father in 1973. I immediately took to the industry. Soon thereafter I opened up a low voltage division and we expanded into to NJ and CT. Our company grew to 50 field employees and performed the electrical and lighting renovations for the country’s most Prominent Corporations in Luxury Retail, Finance, High-End Residential and other High Net Worth Private Clients.

I have this vision to bring our experience and work ethic to the West Coast. In 2013 we opened up a Malibu CA office where I now live full time. As a local resident, this has been an amazing experience. We have been truly welcome by the Malibu and Los Angeles County Communities and really love working hard for our Clients.

This September we are so excited to be opening up our Malibu Showroom. This space has been designed as a meeting place for us to colaberate with Architects,’Engineers, Interior Designers, Client Representatives and Homeowners in their Projects. We also are able to demonstrate the operation of the Lutron Homeworks Lighting Controls, Ketra Lighting, CSL Lighting, Seeless Products and Lutron Shading Systems.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All businesses have their challenges. For us, the only challenge has been to make sure we are always one step ahead of the project, proper planning equals proper results.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I was in the 5th grade at a school in Staten Island NY. I was on the soccer field and I looked over towards the building and I saw my Father. I ran over to him and said; “Dad what are you doing here”. He explained to me that he was doing electrical work on campus. That was the first time I understood what he did for a living and to provide for our family. From that day on I knew I wanted to be an electrical contractor.
