Today we’d like to introduce you to Tre Woods.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tre. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started making music back in 2012. I grew up in a musical family, my brother in law is songwriter/label head Sylvester Powell and my cousin is Fiend4DaMoney formally of No Limit Records. Growing up watching them do their thing in the industry inspired me to get involved with music. Outside of these two, some of my musical influences are Eminem, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z. I’m originally from a small town called Maywood which is minutes from Chicago. I take pride in where I’m from, I rep it in my name and just about every song. Maywood is known for its sports history being the home of Clippers coach Doc Rivers, former Dallas Maverick and spurs player Michael Finley and former Laker Shannon Brown who all brought a championship to the city. I’m determined to bring some music history to the mix. I said in a skit on my album Enter the Woods that I was going to bring a Grammy back to the city. I moved to LA in 2017 to further my career but never can forget where I came from.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I started making music in Chicago during a time when the drill movement was blowing up around the world. A lot of eyes were on the city at this time. Everybody wanted to sound like chief keef but it was almost like if you weren’t doing that then you were kinda in the shadows. My style was different and I wanted to stay true to myself, so that made things a little harder to get people’s attention at the time. This is what would later inspire my move to Los Angeles. I wanted to broaden my network, but it wasn’t easy. I basically uprooted everything I Had established back in Chicago. I felt like I started completely over. It for sure, taught me how to move outside of my comfort zone.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My name is Tre Woods, I’m an artist/songwriter. I specialize in hip hop. My music tells the story of my life, from what motivates me, to obstacles I’ve gone through or am currently going through. I try my best to be an open book. Music to me is an expression of self and in my opinion, the best music came from an artist that spoke on what was relatable. When I make music, my goal is to touch the people and inspire. Especially the people from my city. What I’m most proud of is what I’ve been able to accomplish thus far being 100% independent. I toured with New Orleans artist Curren$y for a few years, I came to LA and hit the ground running and got my first sync placements on a film called “The Chosen One’s” and another one soon to be released entitled “Octopus Pot”. I’ve also been able to get in the studio and collab with some of the industries best songwriters and up and coming artist. Most recently, right before the pandemic shut everything down me and my team sold out the Whiskey-a-GoGo. I gotta shout out everybody that help make these achievements possible. Thank you Mykel Jenkins, Sylvester Powell Jr, Sylvester Powell Sr, Debbie Macias, Phoebe Carter and everybody thats there whenever I call. The future is definitely looking bright.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Achieving happiness, whatever that is to you. For me, I would have to say the ability to live off your dreams for sure. Using your true passion as a vehicle to afford you financial freedom, ownership and control over your own circumstances. Being in a position where I know no matter what my family, my daughter are good for life, ain’t no better feeling. That’s success for me.
